Someone Still

Someone Still

A Poem by Julia Squires

Will I ever see
The sea again,
Or climb another hill?
If I ever reach
The highest peak,
Will I finally feel fulfilled?

Spin for the fire,
Spring for the fall...

I ask to be answered,
And not to ignore;
I think it's a story,
But there's always more war.

Look for the lyre,
Lie for them all...

I know a few feelings,
I've heard a few words,
But the lyrics elude me,
Escape from my ears.

Mist in the mire,
More for the song...

I think I deserve this,
But what can I earn?
I try to desert this,
But how can I burn?

Ink for the iron,
Ice all along...

I live in a cavern,
And a castle of stars;
I'm a child undying,
But I died before birth.

Stay for the stunted,
Same for the late...

Will I always feel
Unreal to touch,
A ghostly girl inside?
Will the words I keep,
The worlds withdrawn,
Come out from where they hide?

Wish to be wanted,
Winter will wait...

I may not be much,
But someone still loves...
And if someone can love me,
That's more than enough.
