Sing a Starry SongA Poem by Julia Squires
I'm a very violet vessel,
Within which spirals spring; Of fathers I've known several, And knelt before a king. I've been to places no one goes, Because they don't exist; I've learned a few things no one knows, Until they make a wish. I've slid through doors that always shut, And lock me where I am; I've pushed through thorns that always cut, And walked upon the sand. I've played in fields of green and grey, And spun inside a meadow; Whenever I find a place to stay, I don't know how to settle. And when the tides rise up and higher still, I'm lost beneath the waves; And when the water claims to fully fill, I long to feel the flames. But the mirror doesn't know my face, And the ice is underwhelmed; But the fever burns and can't be traced, Except in darker realms. And this kingdom lies where daylight dies, And births a starry summer; Where children live in peaceful times, And awaken from their slumber. I'm a very violet vessel, Within which spirals spring; I don't believe in devils, But I believe in being free. © 2014 Julia Squires |
