Different morningA Poem by QuinnAn account of the morning I got hit by a car whilst on my bike. I'm fine now and nothing was broken.“Be good” “Stay safe” “I will” “I promise” Every morning those words Holding less and less meaning But you say them anyway You agree Just so it feels like you might just comply Coat on. Lights on Music on Pedal Every morning Without fail That was how it went Look left Look right Pedal Up the hill Look left Look right Pedal. At the top Down the hill Pedal Soft breaks My way Pedal more Crash. Just like the movies Muffled noise Heart beat Closed eyes Sore side Worried voice No tears Shaking Tangled up Distant memory Just to think 5 years back That was my heaven I wanted it I invited it Now I can’t Broken wing mirror Bent wheel Injured leg Pained arm Rushed phone calls Flapping hands Waiting Waiting Dads car Police report Paramedic (He was hot) Dismissed to go Taken home Hugs and kisses Shaking heads Laying on the sofa Some water in my hand Mum rubbing my forehead “We told you to be good, stay safe” “I told you I would, I promised.”
