Love's Final Kiss

Love's Final Kiss

A Poem by Amanda Schmalz

As your lips brushed mine for the very last time,
How am I to know whether to savor it?
In that moment I felt  pain I hoped never to know.
What if I never knew love again?
I am broken and bleeding with no cure in sight.
When the door slammed for the last time,
What did I do but sob in pity.
Yet there are those who have never known love or caring.
Children wishing for encouragement

Families looking for acceptance.
But here I lay drowning in pity for who? Myself.
Perhaps others need more than me.

Dear Amanda,

An interesting and complex mix of emotions. Love. Self-pity. Concern for others. It gives the impression of viewing your life as you are suspended in air, looking down at yourself detached, almost as if in a dream.

Best regards,

Rick
