Denial

Denial

A Poem by Starfruitanimal

An honest liar,

A crooked smile,

These broken legs can walk a while.

The passionate drone of tv static,

The cancer free smoke of a cigarette habit.

A saintly sin,

A muted sound,

The quiet bombs that hit the ground.

A well known secret,

That you never kept,

A child with a TV set.

To the kids that grew up way too fast,

And to the adults who never did.

To a righteous Constitution;

And the satiated pigs.

To a job that doesn’t pay,

To a modest stripper and her drugs,

To the emaciated gluttons;

And the happy gangs and thugs.

To the hustlers who don’t steal,

And to the rich people who do,

To the moms that have no children,

And the red, the black, the blue.

To the soldier that doesn’t fight,

To the compassionate who don’t care

To the addicts who can sleep at night

And the person who doesn’t fear.

They say opposites attract,

But I can’t say I agree,

Good things don’t follow negative,

Only positivity.

A pied piper with good intent

Now that’s a prickly pun

Follow the leader to the end of the sea

Un till the war is won

He’s appeased by your piety

And your pathetic play to pin

Down the demons and the monsters who embody the word sin.

Plagiarize his party song, pass it on

Protect

Intertwine the meanings with truth and feeling

Fight ferociously for the fragile fragments of freedom

I never said I was a warrior,

Wandering, winning, wishing, waiting.
