Chapter One.A Chapter by Sonya"Paint is peeling off the walls..." A murmur oh so quietly drifted lazily around the silence in the air. A pair of long fingers skimmed the gray puke color that was curling. The nails wore chipped red summery polish. She had asked for the Dealer to wait quietly in the living room while she "investigated".... No, "inspected" the house. That was the day Ranona decided to buy the house 613 of Rocky Road.... Humorous, isn't it?
Said long fingers found themselves skimming the same path they had for every day now. Along the hallway, turn a left, and find the living room. Where the puke gray continued on around the crowded space that was of her living room and work space. Worn slippers with coffee blotches and stains of the unimaginable cozied up to the wide yet small feet that tried to avoid stepping on the fallen apart bookshelves and paper and pens and boxes and the list could go on. With a huff, the human plopped in front of the short table that went wide and far.
Waving her arms over the table she whispered in bliss, "My domain to run free..." She felt powerful knowing this space was hers and hers alone.... At least, until a cat rubbed itself under her arms and knocked over her week old QuikTrip coffee cup. "Why am I not surprised?" She scratched at the gray cat's ears.... Her nails chipped shimmery pink this time. It was only dawn and yet she could feel her indifference settle in.
Being an employee at a small business was harder than it seemed. Reports to do, designs to carry out, people to connect with, so many favors were abound because there were so few people. She pulled at her ratty, culy hair... A dark brown this season. Soon, she stood up to open the windows and cats galore flooded in over the hours. A peach one here, a black there. One was pawing at her hair that touched the floor as she sat, hunched over the design for tomorrow's campaign.
It was 4 p.m. before she realized she had to feed her precious companions as well as herself. Her stomach growled in fury as it demanded to be filled with something other than air. A kitten tapped at her glasses as she asked another, "McDonalds or Tacobell?...... Jack in the Box it is." She needed to drive. Being stuck here for another day all alone and feeling indifferent.... Why not be outside and feel boring?
Rising, she switched her slippers for blue foamy looking sandals. Buttoning her wrinkled jeans that were two sizes too small, she head out the door. Purse in hand, and hair in a jungle-bun.... It was no messy-bun. That thing was a snarling beast that as soon as the rubber-band snapped, it would devour whoever stood behind the mass.
She could only think, during this small portion of her life. What was the point of her existence? She was only Ronana William Joanna. Her nostrils flared as she breathed a breathy sigh. Turning on the radio at the stop light, she watched the yellow and red lights zoom and the city lights counter the celestial embodiment above the earthen territory.
What was going to happen to her? She who lead not a life, but a sorry a*s existing need to fill a void? "And so we enter with the classic line, " she mumbled to herself as she ordered a dozen tacos for lunch and dinner. "Only Time.... Shall reveal the Answer." © 2011 Sonya |
