Niqi entered Icarus Rising, one of the most famous clubs on Hygeia, dragging Ricky along behind her. In front of her, the sight of the lit-up dance floor greeted her. Several fog machines were pumping out thick, cloudy air. On each side of her, bars stretched a mile long. Niqi’s face broke into a grin. “This is f****n’ excellent.”

“Why am I here?” Ricky complained, ripping his shirt sleeve from Niqi’s grip.

Niqi glanced at him, seeming to recall his existence. “Ah, yes. Glide told me your gaydar was good, better than his.” She smiled.

Ricky blinked, and then comprehension dawned as he looked at his surroundings. “Oh no you didn’t.”

Niqi waved a hand in dismissal of the subject. “A girl has needs too. Just tell me. Hm…” She paused, surveying the dance floor. Her eyebrows shot up. “Blond human, ten o’clock. How ’bout him?”

Ricky sighed. He watched the human for a few seconds. “Looks like you’re in luck. Not gay.”

Niqi stared Ricky down. “You had better be right,” she warned, and then took off towards the blond.

Ricky watched Niqi talking to the human for a few moments, and then watched as they took off towards the rest rooms. “The hell, why don’t they just use one of the back rooms?” he muttered. He sighed, shook his head, and headed to the bar on the right, where he sat down and ordered a drink.

Ten minutes later, Ambree walked through the door. The sight of so many people overwhelmed her for a moment. She moved out of the doorway and sifted through the crowd with her eyes, until she saw Ricky suddenly. She ran over to him. “Do you know where Niqi is?”

Ricky grinned. “Yeah, restrooms.” He pointed in their general direction.

In the men’s bathroom, Niqi sat on the counter with her back against the mirror, dressed only from the waist down and looking thoroughly relaxed. She was panting lightly. “What’s your name?” She asked the blond with a grin, seeming to have no shame for what they’d just done nor the fact that she hadn’t known his name beforehand.

“Seraph,” the human said. His shirt was still lying on the ground. He bent down and picked it up. “I’m a DJ around here,” he mentioned casually.

Niqi’s eyes lit up. “No s**t, I’ve heard about you,” she said. Glide had told her about the DJ/singer the same night he’d told her about Icarus Rising. “I’m Niqi, by the way.” She hopped down from the counter, took the shirt from Seraph’s hands, and put it on him, mostly as an excuse to touch him again. She made quiet, contented growling sounds.

Seraph found Niqi’s top under the counter and did the same for her from behind, his hands lingering around her chest. The growling sounds grew louder. “I’m surprised nobody came in,” Niqi commented.

Seraph grinned. “Yeah. Dangerous, wasn’t it?”

Niqi flashed a matching grin. “I live for danger.” The dressing had shifted so that Seraph was holding her from behind. She stayed for a moment, then dug into her pockets. She pulled out a pen. “I’ve got paper somewhere here,” she muttered, breaking away from Seraph. She crouched down and found the pad of paper in the back of one of the stalls. She retrieved it and quickly scribbled her number. “Here,” she said, offering it to the human. “My cell phone.”

Seraph grinned devilishly. “Enjoy yourself?”

“No s**t. I never come back for seconds,” Niqi admitted. She glanced at the door. “I’m sort of…expected…elsewhere,” she murmured.

Seraph nodded. “I’ll see you again sometime, I suppose.”

“Sure. See you,” Niqi said. She paused, then grabbed the human and kissed him, long and hard. When the kiss ended, she walked out of the restroom without another word.

She’d only taken a couple of steps when she ran into Ambree quite literally. “Ambree? What are you doing here?” she shouted; they were in the middle of the dance floor, with music pulsing all around them. Noting this, Niqi grabbed Ambree by the arm and dragged her over to a corner, where the volume was lower and they could actually hear one another.

Niqi waited for Ambree to reply. When she didn’t, she finally repeated, “Well, what are you doing here?”

“I was just…” Ambree looked beyond her, to the dance floor. “I, uh…”

“Speak, girl.”

Ambree was silent.

“Don’t tell me you came here to get laid, too.”

Ambree’s brow furrowed. “Too?”

Niqi scowled and let go of Ambree’s arm. “Fine, don’t tell me, then.” She walked away and exited the club.

Ambree went to sit next to Ricky. She gave him only a nod in greeting.

“What shall I get for the lovely lady?” the bartender asked, walking over to Ambree.

“Ugh,” she muttered. “Something hard.”
