Zi'Ran

Zi'Ran

A Chapter by Star Catcher
"

This is joint-written. I swear, I'll rename these serious things. At some point.

"

"Demons, dead ahead." Glide announced. "We've got icers and imps, scout-shrooms..." He paused, his eyes widening. "... And Zi'Ran..."

Niqi grinned widely, her eyes turning a strange orange color - probably a mix of the wolf yellow and the vampire red. "Bring it on." She flexed her claws, as if thinking about tearing Zi'Ran to shreds.

"Go!" Glide commanded, yanking Magus from its sheath, the blade transforming as he drew it. "Handle that little b***h while we have some fun with his minions."

"Zi'Ran!" Niqi called, getting the half-breed's full attention. "Guess which one of us gets to rip you into bite-sized pieces?" she asked, still yelling, confirming her earlier thoughts.

Zi'Ran extended a paw and, with a wide, sweeping motion, hurled a group of demons aside to let Niqi through. "Come here, puppy." He said, lips twisting into a sinister smile. "I want your blood."

Niqi walked slowly towards him, finally drawing a single luz. She tossed it into the air and caught it with remarkable accuracy. As she moved towards Zi'Ran, her eyes slowly grew more red until they were practically glowing. She emitted a snarl that sounded half-insane. "Funny," she commented, "I was just thinking about how delicious yours smelled. I think you'll make quite a nice meal."

Zi'Ran drew his blade, holding it with an underhand grip, similar to the way Glide held his. He gave a short bow. "My name is Zikarius Ran." He said, licking his fangs and eyeing Niqi in much the same way she was eyeing him. "And I am the instrument of your death."

Niqi smirked, bowing similarly. "Niqi. And I have only one thing to say to you... You're goin' down, b***h!" she yelled, and then launched herself at him.

Zi'Ran sidestepped the attack, swinging his arm upward and slicing Niqi's weapon in half.

Niqi paused for a split second to stare at the halved weapon, then dropped to the ground and used the broken Luz to swung at Zi'Ran's legs. The swing didn't create the satisfying feeling of digging into flesh; instead, they only made shallow slices in Zi'Ran's left leg.

Zi'Ran snarled, delivering a jarring kick to Niqi's chest, knocking her away. "Not bad." He said. "I haven't seen very many that can still come at me with only half a weapon."

"This was a f*****g nice weapon," Niqi replied, snarling. "I liked it. A lot." Without warning, she attacked again, moving with blurring speed. She rushed past Zi'Ran, holding out her half-luz. This time, it tore into his upper arm and she came out with a decent-sized piece of flesh. She held the weapon above her, letting some of the blood drip onto her face and into her mouth, and then turned back to Zi'Ran, grinning.

Zi'Ran clenched his teeth, spinning around and heaving his sword at Niqi's head. "Why won't you just lay down and die like a good dog!?"

Niqi ducked under the attack, then backflipped away from him. "Good dog?" she asked. Before she could respond, Zi'Ran lunged at her again. She dodged that too, seeming to dance out from under his sword. "I beg to differ. I've been a bad, bad girl," she said, and then, from a short distance, threw her broken luz at him as hard as she could.

Zi'Ran dropped to all fours, the broken weapon sailing over his head. He threw the sword again, the weapon whirling through the air toward Niqi.

Niqi attempted to twist out of the way, but as it spun the tip of the sword sliced her cheek. She snarled, drawing her other luz, and then ran at Zi'Ran with the same blurring speed, holding the weapon up and aiming for his chest.

Zi'Ran tore the sheath from his belt, using it to knock the luz out of Niqi's paws. He grabbed her by the shoulders, yanking her close and hooking his arms around her. His sword circled back around, piercing Niqi's back and continuing into Zi'Ran's chest. "Aah, the frigid embrace of the Reaper..." Zi'Ran whispered, closing his eyes. "Free at last..."

Niqi stared at him, too shocked to feel the pain just yet. "Zi'Ran?" she said in a quiet voice, although he was already gone.

Glide approached, cleaning the blood from his blade and sheathing it. "I think the point was to kill him without getting yourself hurt, too." He commented, grabbing the hilt of Zi'Ran's sword, pressing a hindpaw against Niqi's back, and pulling it free.

"F*****G HELL!" Niqi shouted, loud enough to capture the attention of anyone within a three-mile radius. She cringed on the ground. "Did he have to shove it through my f*****g back?"

"Get up, you pansy." Glide muttered. "An undead body can take a lot more than that. F****n' drama queen. You want this thing or what?" He asked, holding up Zi'Ran's blade.

Niqi stood. "Sure," she replied, taking the sword from Glide. She muttered something that sounded like, "Not used to that," and then looked back at Zi'Ran's body. "That was strangely kind of...intimate..." Shrugging, she knelt and bit him in the chest, where the sword had pierced him. She began to drink before he bled dry.
