Niqi marched up to Glide and slapped him across the face. "What the hell happened?"

Glide scowled, reaching forward and tapping two fingers against the side of Niqi's jaw in response.

"... She just slapped you." Shetani said. "That's going a little overboard."

Niqi scowled. "I know what that means. I agree with Shetani."

"Well, the f**k did you hit me for?" Glide asked. "After what just happened, you've got the nerve to smack me?"

"You almost died on me, you jerk," Niqi replied, still scowling.

Glide rolled his eyes. "Eff you. It had to happen eventually, given what we do every goddamn day. Plus, I got to meet with Briar."

Niqi's eyes widened. "You did?"

Glide nodded. "Yeah. He... wasn't what I was expecting."

"What happened?" Niqi asked again.

Glide shrugged, touching the burned fur on his cheek again. "I woke up in his chambers. He was standin' there, paintin' his nails pink."

Niqi raised an eyebrow. "Come again?"

"I'm not kidding." Glide grinned. "Painting his nails pink. Dude's a twink, I swear to god."

Niqi smirked. "Alright. But the important thing is - does he know where your father is?"

Glide shook his head. "No, but he's working on it. He said he'd find him, then use this to find us." He tilted his head up, revealing the gemstone pressed under his jaw. "He just wants us to take him along in exchange for his help."

Niqi briefly looked at the gem, and then smiled. "I take it you're not the only one who would gleefully bash out his brains, then?"

"I think Briar's been holding a grudge against him longer than I have." Glide laughed. "I just hope he can fight, 'cause, elder god or not, I'm not putting up with dead weight."

Niqi glanced around at the demon corpses, finally sheathing her weapons. "So, what do we do now?"

"We wait." Glide replied. "It's basically a fifty-fifty shot that Briar finds him."

Therali smirked, sealing his scythe. "That's the thing about fifty-fifty chances. Suppose you toss a coin enough times. Suppose one day... it lands on its edge."

"The hell is that supposed to mean?" Glide asked.

"Simple." Therali said. "There's always a third chance, even when it seems like it shouldn't exist."

Niqi turned to Therali. "So what would the third choice in this situation be, then?"

Therali shrugged. "Maybe, somehow, Glide's father dies without any of us around. Maybe one of us changes sides. Maybe the third chance remains a mystery and we move on. I'm just saying to prepare for the unexpected."
