A Strange Twist

"

This is completely the writing of my friend. Seems like Ricky pays no attention whatsoever to his father's warnings. Glide's gonna kill him twice.

"

Niqi looked from the small mountain of demon corpses inside the house to Glide, then back again. "What do we do now?" She asked. "I mean, if we just leave them in there, they'll start to stink, people'll find them, panic'll set in... Do we burn the place down or something?"

Glide shrugged. "That's what I'd suggest, but then again, a fuckload of people probably saw us brawlin' with 'em, so what's the point?"

"The point, you pink jackass," Therali growled, "is to keep more people from finding out about this. Word of mouth only spreads so far, but this is solid proof. Demons, walking the planet? Religious fanatics would have a field day with this, not to mention those lunatics that would undoubtedly attempt to bribe them into fighting in their selfish wars, like some Hellish mercenary force. I shudder to think what would happen if it actually worked."

Dham timidly raised his paw. "Um, I may have a solution... Why not simply combine the powers of the present gods and open a small portal to Hell? Throw them back into the fire they crawled from. When that's done, we can repair the wall and hunker down here until we find out where their leader is hiding." He paused, grinning. "Who knows, maybe we'll have enough magic left over to weave defenses around the house, keep them out a little longer next time."

The other gods took a moment to ponder the idea. "... Excellent idea." Shetani said, already beginning preparations for the portal.

...

Summoning the portal left the gods drained of what little magic they still possessed. Revan was the only one still able to weave magic, though he was only able to use enough to repair the walls. "We're magic-less." The young god announced solemnly. "This might not have been such a good idea."

"What about Ptolemy's Ring?" Niqi asked. "It has to still work."

Revan shook his head. "It needs inner magic to be used. Sure, it still works on its own, but until my inner magic recovers, all it'll do is pop off a few sparks."

"We'll have to make do with our weapons, then." Glide stated. "Those of you that need rest can head upstairs. The rest, you're staying down here with me an' Fay. We've gotta figure out where that m**********r is, so we can get this s**t over with."

Revan was the first to ascend the stairs, Sandy and Davis behind him. As soon as Ricky stood, moving to follow them, Glide grabbed his arm. "What? Do you need me for something?"

"No." Glide replied. "The hell do you think you're goin'?"

Ricky scowled. "I'm going to get some rest. Fisnal didn't let any of us f*****g sleep, and these runes drain me to keep working."

Glide released Ricky's arm after a moment, watching him head up the stairs. "Hey!" He called after the younger Varixian. "Your dad's got excellent hearin'; I hear you doin' anything stupid up there and you ain't gonna be able to sit down for a week!"

...

"There's only two rooms up here." Revan said, looking over his shoulder at Ricky. "And they're not even furnished. I guess we'll have to share."

Ricky nodded. "Yeah. I wish you still had some magic left, maybe you could conjure up a damn bed."

"Why don't you take the ring and try to conjure one yourself?" Revan asked, rolling his eyes.

"What, you wanna lend it to me?" Ricky grinned. "No guarantee you'll get it back."

"Oh, you'll give it back." Revan laughed, sliding the ring from his finger. "Or you'll have an annoyed god to deal with."

Ricky took the ring, slipping it on. "Holy s**t, this thing's self-adjusting. That's kinda cool. So, uh... how does it work?"

Revan groaned. "Just concentrate, like you're trying to use one of your own powers."

Ricky closed his eyes, holding his paw out, palm pointed into the room. "Alright, lemme see if it responds to verbal instructions..." He muttered. "Bed!"

The bed that appeared in the room was small, barely big enough for two. Revan took a moment to examine it. "Not bad for the first conjuration." He said. "Now... My ring, if you please."

Ricky nodded, returning the ring to Revan. "Sorry it's so small. I'm kinda wiped out, it's the best I could do."

"It'll do." Revan smiled, climbing onto the bed. "It's fine. Let's just get some sleep."

"Y'know," Ricky mused, joining Revan on the bed, "it's kinda weird. Knowing you, I mean. I never thought there were gods younger than some mortals."

Revan laughed. "Well, now you know that there are."

Ricky went silent, crossing his arms behind his head. After a moment, he turned his head, looking at Revan. "Are you really just ten, or are you small for your age?"

Revan shrugged. "I'm ten on this plane. I existed Up There for about... oh, five years before I came down here."

"So you're somewhere around fifteen, then?" Ricky asked.

"If you want to combine the time I've spent on both planes, yeah, I guess." Revan replied, mirroring Ricky's position. "Why the sudden interest?"

Ricky smirked. "Honestly? I think you're kinda cute, and I wanted to figure out how long I'd have to wait before I could try anything. Looks like it won't be as long as I thought."

"... And you're just mentioning this now?" Revan asked, raising an eyebrow. "I'm surprised you were able to keep quiet for this long. There is a problem with this, though, and it would still be a problem, even if I was older."

Ricky shot him a quizzical look. "What problem?"

"My mother is a goddess, and... you're my master's son." Revan responded. "What would they think?"

"That doesn't matter..." Ricky purred, snaking an arm under Revan and pulling the young god close. "They'll have to get used to it."

"Do me a favor." Revan murmured, nuzzling Ricky's neck. "Promise me, if we try this whole... relationship thing, we'll take it slow? So we don't do something stupid on impulse that'll come back and bite us in the a*s."

"... I promise."
