Something to Worry About

A Chapter by Star Catcher
"

This is completely the writing of my friend.

"

"This should work nicely." Therali said, looking around inside an abandoned house.

Niqi nodded. "It's not the nicest place, but at least it's a roof over our heads."

Glide stood near the window, watching as the sun set outside. "You guys might as well get some sleep. We need to find my mother again tomorrow, and it's best to head out early."

...

Therali moved to stand beside Glide, looking over at the Varixian after a moment. "Glide... you know yesterday was the seventeenth, don't you?"

Glide nodded. "I know."

"Then you know exactly where your mother will be tomorrow." Therali stated, directing his gaze out the window.

"Yeah, I know. She's going to be at home all day." Glide responded. "This whole 'seeing myself being born' thing isn't gonna cause a time paradox, is it? Like popping Ocelot in Metal Gear Three?"

Therali rolled his eyes. "Lay off the video games for a while. Please. The only thing that would cause a time paradox would be if someone-" He turned to Glide, a look of absolute horror on his face. "Wake the others! Now!"

Glide jumped at the sudden command, turning and bolting through the house, waking the rest of the group.

The others stumbled out of their rooms, nearly asleep on their feet, though they still managed to follow Glide and Therali out of the house and into the cold night air.

"What's going on?" Niqi yawned, sprinting alongside Glide. "I thought you said we could sleep..."

Glide shook his head. "We don't have time for questions. Hang a left up here, we're almost there."

...

Weapons drawn, the group entered Glide's childhood home, making their way toward the back bedroom.

Glide was the first through the door, spotting a tall Varixian boy standing over his sleeping mother. "Get away from her!" He growled, using his free paw to grab the other Varixian by the back of his hoodie and throw him out of the room.

"You..." The Varixian boy hissed, rolling to his feet and drawing his blade. "You're the one. I wonder how long it'll take me to-"

"No." Glide snapped, cutting him off. "No f*****g one-liners, no witty dialogue. I'm sick and f*****g tired of it."

The Varixian boy raised an eyebrow, though he didn't reply.

The rest of the group looked on, in awe. None said it, but the same thought ran through all of their minds. He looks like Glide...

Glide shoved the other Varixian backwards. "This is gonna work out one of two ways. One, you tell me who you are and what you're doing here. Two, you do something stupid and I beat you within an inch of your life."

"Go to hell." The Varixian boy replied.

"Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt." Glide muttered. "Y'know, I think I've got my answer already. You're Fabian. You're also the one that's screwing with the past."

"How do you know my name?" Fabian asked. "Who the hell are you?"

Glide ignored his questions. "Listen to me, and listen well, boy." He snarled. "I'm going to be a good sport and give you a chance to live. If you turn around and walk away, I'm going to let you go. If you want to try something, I'll warn you right now. I've walked right through a million little punks just like you. I know all about you. Underneath that 'I'm too badass for a comb' hair style, the Crow eyeliner and the black lipstick, you're just a scared little poser-goth kid that's in way over his head. Don't think I don't see you shaking."

Fabian reluctantly sheathed his blade, the ivory scarab on the pommel beginning to glow faintly. After a few seconds, he vanished.

"... Glide?" Niqi murmured. "Am I dreaming, or did that really just happen?"

Glide glanced over his shoulder at her. "What the f**k kind of question was that? Come on, let's go. I'm sure we'll see that kid again, so we'll need to keep a close eye on my mother. If anything happens to her, I'll disappear and everything we've done will be erased."
