Six O'clock

Six O'clock

A Chapter by Star Catcher
"

This is completely the writing of my friend. Why is everything so orderly?

"

"Well, if it ain't the pixie." Valerian grinned. "You want revenge, or did you come to watch me kill your troops?"

Glide scowled. "Who the f**k are you callin' a pixie?"

"No hard feelings, kid." Valerian said, flicking his halberd into the air. "Had to make it look real." He grabbed his weapon out of the air, spinning around to lop off the head of one of Antel's troops.

Glide raised an eyebrow. "What the hell are you doing? He was on your side!"

Valerian rolled his eyes. "Look. Me and the boys are gonna help you guys out. We'll handle the grunts, you guys head to the fortress."

"What, just like that?" Glide asked. "No catch?"

"Oh, there's a catch, pinky." Maki smirked. "Y'all gotta slay the dragon 'fore you can get in."

"Don't die." Valerian added. "I'm looking forward to round two, and kicking your corpse around wouldn't be satisfying at all."

Glide scoffed. "Please, like I'm gonna die again. As for that dragon, if it means I finally get to end this, I'll f****n' sodomize it with Full Throttle if I have to."

"Disgusting." Red stated.

"Whatever." Glide muttered, drawing Full Throttle and advancing through the sea of Antel's troops. "Come on!" He called over his shoulder, cutting through the creatures that stood in his path.

"Yeah, like it's that easy to follow him with all these people trying to kill us..." Shetani growled, using walls of pure energy to keep Antel's troops at bay and allow Raven's Nest to move toward the fortress.

...

As the group made their way toward the fortress, a wave of guards poured out, charging them, only to be crushed seconds later as the dragon landed. Glide raised his arm, shielding his eyes from the spray of blood. "S**t, didn't think that would happen..."

"... You know," Niqi murmured, staring up at the dragon, "he looked a lot smaller from the other side of the battlefield."

Shetani nudged Ambree with her elbow. "I would use Illyria, if I were you." She whispered, glancing at the blade at Ambree's hip.

"That thing is gargantuan." Ambree stated. "What would one little sword do?"

Shetani smirked. "See for yourself."

Ambree nodded, deciding that Shetani wouldn't give her bad advice. She drew Illyria, sprinting forward and ducking under the dragon's enormous head, driving the blade into its soft underbelly. The blade pierced the scales easily, the dragon letting out a pained roar and attempting to take flight. Illyria slid through the scales, pulled free as the dragon rose off the ground, shakily flying over the battlefield and falling among Antel's troops. "Wow..." Ambree breathed. "How did-"

"Illyria is a god's weapon." Shetani said, striding past Ambree and toward the fortress doors. "You really expected something less?"

"... I guess it's too late to call dibs." Glide muttered. After a moment, he raised his voice to call across the battlefield. "Jekka! After this is done, be sure to get the dragon's corpse! The scales'll make great armor!"

...

Upon entering the fortress, the group was greeted by a woman at a desk. She looked up as they entered, adjusting her glasses. "Are you Antel's six o'clock?"

Glide raised an eyebrow. "What?"

The woman pushed a planner across the desk. "Look. 'Six o'clock, heroes arrive for epic battle'. You're kind of early; would you like to take the long way through the fortress and eat up some time with the guards?"

Niqi glanced at Ambree, who simply shrugged.

"What are you, his secretary?" Shetani asked.

The woman nodded. "Yes, I am. Now, if you'd like to take the long way, the door is on your left. If you want to just head down to the fight early, the stairs are behind me."

Revan glanced from the woman to the stairs and back again. "And you're just going to let us through?"

"Of course." The woman replied. "If I try to stop you, I get fired. Or killed. With the boss, you can never really tell which one."

"We'll take the stairs." Glide said. "I'm damn bored with all the guards."

The woman stood up, unlocking the door to the stairs. "There's one little thing I should warn you about. Roque and Dex will be waiting down there. You'll need to get through them before you can take the boss on."

Glide heaved a frustrated sigh, leading the group down the stairs. "Great. Minibosses..."

...

Glide stopped at the foot of the stairs, turning back toward the rest of the group. "I want you guys to hang back."

"But-" Ambree began, only to be cut off.

"You got the dragon!" Glide snapped. "You don't get to say anything."

Ambree sighed. "Fine, hog the good fights..."

"You jerks are coming with me to fight Antel, I just wanna clear the minibosses myself." Glide said, handing his weapons to Revan. "Keep these safe or I'll twist your tail off."

Revan nodded. "Got it."

"... You're going in unarmed?" Shetani asked, raising an eyebrow. "Did it ever occur to you that that might be an extremely stupid idea?"

Glide shrugged. "Who gives a damn? I do things my way."

"You're going to get hurt one of these days." Shetani stated.

Glide laughed, tossing off his vest and heading away from the stairs. "Don't count on it."

...

Glide switched his eyepatch from his left eye to his right as he stepped into a large, dimly lit room, the replacement eye allowing him to spot Roque immediately. The former paladin held a sledge in his hands, grinning at Glide. To his left stood a young male in a trenchcoat, seemingly unwilling to be a part of the fight.

"I'm glad you could make it." Roque said. "I've wanted to beat you down since the day we met."

"Oh, feel free to try." Glide responded, cracking his knuckles. "But, I should warn you, I have to kill you quickly. I have a meeting with your boss."

Roque smirked. "Guards!" He called, four guards filing in from the room behind him.

"That's a real b***h move." Glide muttered, holding up a paw. "I really hate having to do this." A black flame appeared in his palm, extending into a whip of fire. The first guard to approach was grabbed around the neck with the whip, a quick flick of Glide's wrist snapping his neck and sending him spiraling to the floor.

"I've gotta tell you, man, that's kind of impressive..." The young man in the trenchcoat said, moving to get a better view of the fight.

"You could help them, Dexter." Roque growled.

Dexter shrugged. "So could you."

Glide pulled his flame whip back, extinguishing the fire. Grinning, he allowed the chain around his right arm to unravel, swinging it around another guard's neck and pulling him into a stiff elbow strike.

The remaining two guards glanced at each other, then at Roque. "Screw it, you don't pay us enough for this." They stated simultaneously, retreating.

"... Oh, f**k me..." Roque muttered, rubbing his temples. "Why the hell did I hire those idiots? There's nothing 'elite' about them..." He looked up at Glide, flashing him a sheepish grin. "Uh, my boss is calling...?" He turned to run, slamming into Dexter and stopping dead in his tracks. "What-"

Dexter yanked his paw back, his claws sliding out of Roque's chest. "For your own sake, use your final breath to say something insightful. It'll be your epitaph." He said, shaking his paw off, the fur sinking back into his skin.

"It's... not supposed to end this way..." Roque hissed, dropping to his knees. "I'm not supposed to die..."

"Not what I would've gone with," Dexter smirked, "but... I suppose it'll have to do." He turned his attention to Glide. "Well? You've got a fight to get to. Hurry it up. If you need me... well, you're not gonna find me. Do yourself a favor and don't try."

Glide grabbed Dexter by the arm. "Hang on, Dexter. What the hell are you?"

"It's Dex. Dex Bates." Dexter replied. "I'm a lycanthrope. More specifically, a werewolf."

"Bates, huh?" Glide grinned, letting go of Dexter's arm. "Any relation to Norman?"

Dexter rolled his eyes. "Yeah, he's my mother." He said, doing nothing to conceal his sarcasm.

"Holy s**t." Glide laughed. "I can't believe you caught that."

"Like anyone hasn't heard of Norman Bates." Dexter muttered. "Look, the longer we stand here, the more time he has to prepare for your fight. Get your group and go take him out. Oh, and... give the gargoyle kid my regards."

Glide nodded, heading back toward the stairs. He stopped after a few steps, looking over his shoulder. "You know Dha-" He trailed off; Dexter was already gone. Muttering to himself, he switched his eyepatch back to his left eye and continued toward the rest of Raven's Nest.

...

"Dex was here?" Dham asked, raising an eyebrow. "Why didn't I sense him...?"

Glide shrugged. "Maybe your powers are fucked up around here."

"... I have to go after him." Dham murmured, his wings unfurling.

Glide snorted derisively. "How do you think you're gonna track him? His scent vanished along with the rest of him. Just forget him, for now. When this is over, we'll all go looking for him together."

Dham sighed, giving a reluctant nod. "You're right. I'm not a tracker, you are. But... you have to give me your word that we'll find him."

"I promise, we'll find him." Glide responded. "We'll go to the gods for help, if we have to, but we'll find him."

"Not to piss on your parade or anything," Revan began, "but aren't we supposed to be killing a certain psychotic body-snatcher right now?"

Glide rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, I know." He said, taking his weapons from Revan. "Come on, people. Let's go."
