Frikkin' Unforeseen Circumstances

Frikkin' Unforeseen Circumstances

"

This is completely the writing of my friend.

The wait seemed eternal. It was well after sunrise, two days later, when someone finally returned; Felix, carrying the Bloody Doves and Byakko's Claw. "You guys wouldn't believe how much useless stuff I had to dig through just to find these..."

"Thanks." Lujuria smiled, taking his weapons. "I owe you one."

"Don't mention it." Felix replied, adjusting his halo. "I guess I'm the first one to get back."

Ambree nodded. "We've been waiting for two days now, where the hell are the others?"

Felix went silent, grabbing his halo and beginning to polish it, trying his best to avoid eye contact.

"What? What happened?" Ambree asked.

"Well," Felix murmured, "you remember how Shetani said 'barring any unforeseen circumstances'? I ran into one of those 'unforeseen circumstances', and let's just say it's lucky I'm already dead..."

Lujuria raised an eyebrow. "What was it?"

Felix shrugged, returning his halo to its place above his head. "It... was pretty big, looked a little like a snapping turtle..."

Lujuria frowned. "That's... extremely odd. I'll bet it was a Shell Dragon, but... how could it be? Even if one could survive what happened, they wouldn't stray that far from the Deep Marsh around the Dragonspine mountains, not even during mating season."

Before any further questions could be asked, a portal opened nearby, Shetani and Dham stumbling out. "You... stupid... f**k..." The goddess hissed, clutching her wounded side.

"Unforeseen circumstances?" Ambree asked.

Dham nodded. "We found what we were looking for, but the people guarding them weren't very eager to part with them."

Felix grabbed Shetani's wrist, moving the goddess' paw away from her wound and examining it. "Ouch, that must sting..." The Varixian muttered. "It looks like you got struck by lightning."

"I did." Shetani growled, fists clenched. "I didn't expect to encounter an element master on Hygeia, of all planets. After he hit me with that f*****g lightning bolt, I turned him into a loaf of pumpernickel bread."

"Well, the good news is, it's not a serious wound." Felix stated. "If you want, I could try to heal you."

"I'd appreciate it." Shetani replied. "I want to be in top condition when the time comes to face what's ahead."

Felix began humming softly, running his paws across the wound. After a few seconds, it was gone. "There."

"Thanks." Shetani said, sitting down on the ground and waiting for the rest of their group to return. "I bet, right now, Glide is..."

...

"What are you doing?" Jericho asked, watching Glide move through the water in front of him.

Glide turned around, shrugging. "I'm not sure what you're talking about, to be honest."

"The way you move. It's... strange. Like you know exactly where you're going, even when everything around you appears the same." Jericho explained. "Tell me, how do you manage that?"

Glide turned back, ducking under the water for a few seconds before returning to the surface. "This isn't the time for questions. Just follow me, I'll explain more when we find our newest recruit. He should be about... two miles straight down."

"And how do you propose we get down there? Swim?" Jericho scoffed. "The pressure that far down would crush even you."

"Remember who you're talking to." Glide tossed back at him, diving down.

Jericho sighed, rubbing his temples. "This is not my day..." He muttered, following Glide below the surface.
