Glide's NegativeA Chapter by Star CatcherThis is joint-written. You can probably guess from the title.
When Niqi awoke, T.K. was gone. Am I the last one downstairs again…? She thought, standing up and opening the door. “Great,” she muttered as she descended the stairs, “not only am I the last one downstairs, I’m the last one to leave.” As she opened the door, she spotted Glide outside, his vest and fishnet shirt removed. “Mambo, you’re up next.” The Varixian said, gesturing for the feline to approach. Niqi snuck out the door, standing next to Ambree. “What’s going on?” She whispered. “Glide’s trying to decide which one of us gets to choose our next path.” Ambree responded. “If anyone can take him off his feet when they’re called, they get to choose.” “I guess nobody’s had any luck yet.” Niqi snickered. Mambo lunged forward, landing in front of Glide and flipping backwards, aiming to kick the Varixian in the jaw. He let out a surprised yelp as Glide caught his hindpaws and shoved him forward, the feline landing on his stomach on the ground. “You’re out.” Glide smirked. “Dominique!” Niqi jumped. “Me?” “No,” Glide replied sarcastically, “the invisible Dominique next to you. Here’s your sign.” “…Right.” Niqi muttered, cracking her knuckles. Smirking, she leapt over Glide’s head, spinning to hammer him with her elbow. “F**k.” She muttered, slightly muffled by the paw gripping her muzzle. Glide had stopped her elbow with one paw, the other grabbing her. “Well, you’re out, too.” Glide laughed, letting go of Niqi’s elbow and shoving her backwards. “Arcadian kid, you wanna try your luck?” Niqi raised an eyebrow; he couldn’t possibly be serious. “Glide, that’s not a–” “Quiet.” Glide snapped. “I ain’t talkin’ to you.” “I don’t think so.” T.K. said. “But I think he might wanna try.” Glide spun around, noticing the gray-furred creature standing behind him; his negative. “You again?” Glide muttered. “I guess you want me to cave your skull in.” “Absolute Zero…” The negative hissed, its short claws shining for a moment before extending, seeming to turn to metal. “Come here, weakling. Let me rearrange that pretty face.” “…I’d say something about those claws, but damn, did you just call me ‘pretty’?” Glide asked, eyeing the claws warily; they seemed to exude pure ice energy. “Yeah.” The negative smirked. “But you won’t be pretty for long.” Glide glanced toward his weapons, sitting on the ground nearby, then shook his head. “Let’s get this started.” The negative darted forward, spinning to deliver a heel kick to Glide’s head, the Varixian sent spinning to the ground. “Okay, that hurt…” Glide growled, kipping to his feet. He stepped into a claw swipe, the negative’s claws barely missing him, its arm trapped against his neck by his own. He reached forward with his free paw, grabbing the negative by the back of its neck and pulling it forward. “Now, let’s get this finished.” The negative’s eyes widened as the Varixian boy gave it a quick kiss, then a headbutt while it was stunned. “The kiss of death?” It muttered from the ground. “That wasn’t cool…” “Actually, it was.” Glide responded, raising his leg up and pausing for a split second before bringing his heel down on the negative’s stomach. “And it was badass. Surrender or I rain knuckles down on you.” “You bested me pretty quick.” The negative said, grabbing Glide’s ankle. “And you did it without weapons. Listen, I wasn’t supposed to do this, but…take Absolute Zero, too. It’ll come in handy.” “The claws?” Glide asked. The negative nodded. “Yeah. When you need ’em, just call ’em. And there’s something else you should know, too. There’s a swarm of Ryuusei moths in your vest. Wake ’em up, they’ll help you. Later, prettyboy.” It grinned, fusing with Glide. “Well, that was… interesting…” T.K. said. “That ain’t nothin’.” Glide laughed. “That might’ve been the most normal thing that’s ever happened to me.” “It’s definitely up there,” Niqi commented. “So, do you get to pick the next direction since your negative was the first to get you to the ground?” Glide nodded, picking up his weaponry. “Come on, folks, we’re goin’ this way.” He grinned, continuing in the direction they had been heading in when they found the ruined city. © 2008 Star Catcher |
