The Crusaders Are Drama QueensA Chapter by Star CatcherThis is joint-written.“She’s human.” Kigetski pointed out. “You two are breaking so many laws right now, I should be killing you.” “You can’t kill me, I’m already dead.” Glide grinned. “And, of course, I’d probably rip your skull in half if you tried.” “Besides, the law allows any species to become a Crusader, as long as they have a supernatural power,” Niqi interjected. “Humans were outlawed simply because nobody thought they could possess supernatural powers.” Ambree stood in the corner, frightened, as her comrades defended her. “It doesn’t matter.” Kigetski snapped. “You helped a human leave the Western Cross, and I heard about that little stunt you pulled in the Eastern. Two demons, Glide? Two? Drawn right out of the city? The king is going to declare war on us because of you.” Glide shrugged. “They can’t do jack. The demons were outside of the Eastern Cross when we killed them.” “Kigetski, see reason. Ambree has proved herself useful as a fighter. She will be an excellent advantage against the demons,” Niqi said. “It’s no use reasoning with him.” Glide muttered. “What was that?” Kigetski growled, pulling the enormous blade from the sheath on his back. Glide scoffed. “What are you gonna do, try and wield Full Throttle against me? Don’t forget who gave you that thing.” Niqi sighed. “Kigetski, really, what could go wrong with allowing her to join? You have nothing to lose from it. And besides…Glide will kick your a*s until you let her join, anyway,” she added, biting back a smile. “She’s right, y’know.” Glide said. “Fine. Glide, you seem so eager to start a fight, we’ll settle this with a wager.” Kigetski smirked. “If you can disarm me, I’ll-” Glide glanced up, and then returned to looking over the blade in his paws - Full Throttle. “Sorry, you were boring me.” “He’s fast,” Ambree muttered, temporarily forgetting where she was. “Oh, did you want this back?” Glide snickered. “Even though you never got the chance to finish your sentence, I’m pretty sure you were gonna say ‘I’ll allow her to join’.” “Yeah...” Kigetski said, taking his blade back. “I suppose she’s a Crusader.” Ambree grinned, running to Glide and hugging him. “Thanks.” “Uh, no problem.” Glide grinned. “Now could you let me go?” Ambree giggled, pulling back. “Sorry.” Niqi rolled her eyes, and then glanced up at Kigetski. “Right then. If everything’s set…we can leave?” “She still needs a weapon.” Glide said. “We’ll just take one from the store room.” Kigetski opened his mouth to say something, then just sighed and shut it again. He knew when he’d been defeated. “How about this?” Niqi asked, twirling a mace. She set it down. “Or this?” she asked, picking up twin curved daggers and spinning them around. “This place is massive,” Ambree muttered, looking around at the array of different weapons. “All of those belong to somebody.” Glide laughed. “The wall has the good ones.” Along the wall were a variety of swords, each with two plates above it; a name for the weapon and the name of the Crusader it belonged to. Only three had no Crusader attached to them - the Roc Feather, the Insecte, and the War Dog. Ambree caught on quickly and found the three that had no owner. She selected the Insecte, testing out lunges and slashes with it. “I like it. It’s lightweight, seems pretty deadly.” “Last guy that took that one was pretty successful.” Glide nodded. “It’s insanely hard to dodge, from what I’ve seen.” Ambree sheathed the sword, took it down from the wall, and attached the sheath to her side. “If that’s it, then let’s go…” She remembered where they were quick enough to stop herself from saying ‘break the law’. She left it hanging at ‘go’. “Right,” Niqi said, putting the twin daggers down reluctantly. “Let’s.” “Those actually belong to me.” Glide said, heading for the door. “My first Crusader weapons, before I had Magus forged. They’re called the Bloody Doves.” “Nice choice. They’re beautiful,” Niqi commented, following him out. Ambree skipped out the door after them. “Know what?” Glide said, suddenly turning around and opening the door again. “I’m gonna take ’em along.” He disappeared into the store room again, coming back out with the Bloody Doves tucked into his belt. Niqi grinned. “You’re gonna have to lend ’em to me sometime.” “You’re gonna have to learn how to use ’em.” Glide replied. “I don’t quite mind learning new things, these days,” Niqi responded, smirking. “Good. Old moves get stale and predictable after a while.” Glide snickered, pushing open the massive doors of the Crusaders’ headquarters and stepping out into the street. “That’s why I know so much crazy and unpredictable s**t.” Ambree received many skeptical stares once again, as she had when they first arrived. Niqi got fed up with them after a while. “What? You never seen a human before or something?” she yelled at them. The other Crusaders went back to what they were doing, some whispering to each other. “Why’s a human traveling with Glide?” “Is she really a human at all...?” Glide heaved a frustrated sigh. “This is why I pretty much never come back here.” “You’re drama queens, all of you!” Niqi yelled. The whispering didn’t stop. “Why won’t they just get over it?” she muttered. Glide snarled, Shetani’s energy spiraling up his arm, then his shoulder, to wrap around his throat. He leaned his head back, opening his mouth and emitting a window-shattering roar. All noise immediately stopped. “Thank you, for God’s sake!” Niqi growled. She pulled Ambree, who had frozen like everybody else after the roar, along, and shoved various people out of the way to make a path for them out of the Northern Cross. “I do what I can.” Glide grinned, finally taking a moment to slip his arm back into the sling before following Niqi and Ambree out of the Northern Cross. © 2008 Star Catcher |
