Forbidden ForestA Story by Star AngelA little adventure during Capture the Flag. (This was an essay I had written towards the end of the school year. I just forgot I wanted to post it.)
From the top of the old hill we followed the tire tracks down deeper into the thick, sleeping forest. Gravel crunched beneath our footsteps until we stepped into the grass to make our way towards the trickling stream. Beyond the stream was another beaten path that had been somewhat overgrown and forgotten. The path didn't stop until it joined the once green field, now a dull brown. In the midst of the clearing stood a lone evergreen tree, and beneath it, plush green grass and fallen branches. At the far end of the silent field stood a decrepit shack separated from the rest of the field by a chain link fence with barbed wire coiled around the top. The fence gate was falling off its hinges and lay open for anyone to pass through. There was a rundown house farther back, but the eerie feel kept us from investigating further. The world around us seemed to stop as we stood admiring the nature surrounding us. The only thing able to pull us back into reality was the distance blaring car horn signalling the end of the game and our little adventure.
