The sands of time

The sands of time

A Poem by stansg
"

An elegy written to honor the memory of a dear friend.

"
The sands of time

And so….

The sands of time have ceased to flow,

For our beautiful, beloved doe.

And whilst I was yet a grieving,

My heart full of pain,

I heard them say

She’s gone on to rest to a better place,

Where she does behold her makers face.

And with these words they thought they could,

My bitter pains efface.

Nay they couldn't,

And so I decided to enquire face to face.

With grief and pain pouring out,

I knelt down on the floor

With heavy heart I lifted my face

And looked on the yonder shore.

I asked him Mr. Maker why?

Why do you cease the sands to flow?

Why did you take our beloved doe?

He looked on to me and smiled, and said,

You’re but a child.

Why don’t you wipe your tears away?

For on heavens feathern bed she doth lay.

And today in heaven she doth sit,

Cause her life’s race she did complete.

As a flower I sent her on to the earth.

But the earth for her is no more worth.

I only took away what was mine.

So cease to cry and cease to pine.

The Maker thus his plan did share

And then I knew that he does care.

And even though the pain did not recede,

She’s in a better place indeed.

Oh the world has lost its glow,

Without you our beautiful, beloved Doe.

Doe truly is in a better place. Death does not mean grief to those it takes but to those left behind.

Hey there - I love the rhyme rhythm and general feel of this ... You have taken a heavy subject that we all have trouble facing and made it a little bit lighter the way it should be.

I really enjoyed this a lot ! Xx

You have written a lovely poem about a "not so lovely subject." Why do we think we can avoid death? It is a part of life after all. But your poem is well written and I almost feel as though I know the lovely lady you wrote about from your descriptive words. (And even though the pain did not recede, She’s in a better place indeed.) That is a wonderful thought! I can relate...my only son passed away just over 3 years ago and the pain does not recede as you've written. Good luck on your endeavor to become a professional writer! )It's hard work.) ~Sharon

You are quite welcome for the review and I thank you for your compassion! ~Sharon
I like the flow and the gentle or soft-spoken tone! Although, the journey of the poem is sad, as reader I felt that I was in good hands. For me you created a feeling of trust. I enjoyed reading it!
