ShaunA Story by StacWhen Shaun is stabbed near his home, no one can find the culprit. How will Shaun and his family feel when he learns the truth? The knife sliced through him. He was 15; a child, too young to die. He had too think fast. He had to live. The blackness started to come over him. He fell to the floor. The last thing he saw was a white light. The blackness washed over, he wasn’t going to fight it. Finally he could sleep. * * * * * The room was noisy. There was pain all up his side. He could hear his mum, dad and sister talking. He tried to move but the blackness just took over. He let it. Each time he regained consciousness he could hear parts of the conversation. He tried to move again and this time he could without the blackness trying to take over. ‘Shaun?’ His mum, Marie, said. He tried to open his eyes but the light was too bright. ‘Shaun, open your eyes.’ He heard someone say. He didn’t recognise the voice but did as he was told. He opened his eyes and blinked a few times before everything came into focus. ‘Mum, what happened?’ He replied weakly. ‘You were stabbed.’ Marie said. The nurse took the oxygen mask of him before going to get the doctor. Shaun looked at his mum before closing his eyes again. He could feel himself falling victim to the blackness once again. He heard the nurse walk back in but he didn’t want to open his eyes. ‘Shaun, I’m Dr Rhodes.’ The doctor said as Marie looked down at her eldest child. Shaun carefully opened his eyes and looked at his mum. ‘How are you feeling?’ The doctor asked. ‘It hurts.’ Shaun managed to mutter. His throat hurt but he didn’t know why. ‘Where?’ Marie asked him. ‘My stomach and left side.’ Shaun muttered before being taken over by the blackness. He knew it wasn’t right to let the blackness take over. ‘Shaun open your eyes.’ Dr Rhodes kept asking. Shaun didn’t want to. He was tired. Why couldn’t they let him sleep? His mum let go of his hand and Shaun heard all three walk outside the room. * * * * * Marie looked through the window of Shaun’s hospital room. ‘We are worried about him.’ ‘Why?’ ‘He keeps drifting in and out of consciousness.’ Dr Rhodes said as Marie turned around. ‘But you said that once he wakes up he will be fine.’ Marie said on the verge of tears. ‘It looks like there might be more damage than we first thought.’ ‘Hasn’t he been through enough already? He nearly died.’ Marie said as she started crying. Shaun’s dad and sister walked down the corridor and looked at each other. They both knew something was wrong otherwise Marie wouldn’t be crying. ‘Erin, go and see Shaun.’ Martin said as he put his arm around Marie. * * * * * As Erin walked through the door she couldn’t believe the state that her older brother was in. His eyes were closed and he was pale. She went over to him and sat down. She grabbed his hand and stroked his blonde hair. Shaun opened his eyes and smiled at her. ‘Hey.’ Erin said as she smiled back at her brother. ‘Hey.’ Shaun said weakly before closing his eyes again. ‘How are you feeling?’ ‘Sore.’ Erin could see that Shaun was tired and she decided to leave him to sleep. * * * * * Outside Martin and Marie were busy talking to Dr Rhodes about Shaun’s condition when Erin walked outside. ‘Is he going to be ok?’ Erin said. ‘Well he keeps drifting in and out of consciousness which is worrying.’ Dr Rhodes said. Erin looked at the worried look on her dads face. ‘The cops need to talk to him.’ Martin said as he hugged Erin. ‘I want to be with him.’ Erin said. ‘You can’t.’ ‘Why?’ Erin started to raise her voice. ‘Because he needs to stay calm.’ Dr Rhodes said as Erin fell to the floor in tears. She looked down the corridor and saw that there were 3 police officers standing there. © 2011 StacAuthor's Note
