Stares

Stares

A Poem by Squirrel

We must have been an odd sight
Two girls standing together
Dressed so differently
Daring to speak to each other

We must have been an odd sight
One dressed in a chador
The other so skimpily
Daring to link arms

We must have been an odd sight
Laughing, talking, hugging
Acting like race didn’t matter
Daring to act equal

We must have been an odd sight
Making excited plans
To make sure the stares would come
Daring to laugh at them

We must have been an odd sight
Sharing secrets and fears
Telling new of tragic tales
Daring to think of the tragedy

We must have been an odd sight
To be friends
To be equal
Daring to think we weren’t an odd sight at all.

I saw the first line and.....omg. Leah. I need to get over myself first to be able to comment.

Either I'm being self conceited or the other person in the poem is me? Haha, odd sight we are indeed, not caring what others think. And honestly, I thank you for staying by me, even knowing what stares you will get. :)

The poem was lovely, and it's the next thing that has brightened up my day. (the first was the rain I saw outside.) Thank you and good job.
