![]() Cold Creek AdventureA Poem by Susan![]() describing an adventure my family had during the holiday 2007 season, in the mountians to the west of vegas.![]() Cold Creek Adventure Looking out over the vast desert landscape... Standing high on the hillside... One can see the stretch of arid desert, stretching for miles. To the edge of the horizon and beyond. Joshua trees, straggly and bent, dot the dry sandy land. A dusty gravel road twists and turns, occasionally disappearing around a bend. Only to reappear several miles later down the road. Cloudless blue sky looms over you, with nary a cloud to block out the glaring sun. THere is no room on the dusy path for mistakes or manuvering. The only animals around are wild burros and mustangs gazing in peace. Beautiful, yet shaggy with their thick shaggy coats, in shades of browns and ivorys. The path seems endless, as does the desert. Meeting nobody else on this narrow path. The blazing sun slowly setting down for the day, inching closer to the horizon. The end seems to be miles away, as we pass ruins of once native american dwellings. Time drags on and on with teeth clenching edginess... At last, the town of Pahrump comes into view. A loud cheer goes up in the Ford pick up truck. Before there was hardly a scratch. Afterwards, the truck looked like it had been thru a war zone. With dozens of scratches all over the long vehicle. A cry of whoppeee escapes as the end nears. With a tank of gas in the tank. the end. Sue Therese Boone, 2/17/09 © 2009 SusanAuthor's Note
