Rio Grande Nature ConservancyA Poem by Susanthis is a 5 part poem about my day at the Rio Grande Nature Conservancy.Rio Grande Nature Conservancy Park- Part 1 - Candelaria Wetlands Nestled among the tall stick barren trees with miniature islands. the pond teemed with life. Hundreds of migrating Canadian Geese floated lazily on the smooth waters. Catching the mid day sun. Lying on the dry hard winter basking in its warmth. A pair of Geese warn others encroaching their spot to stay away, honking noises. Off in the distnace, on the east side of the pond, tall Sandhill Cranes could be heard. If you listened quietly, you could hear hte whrrrign shoudns they made. Tall, graceful and elegant were they. I wish I had my camera... Other smaller woodland ducks with their black bodies and white beacks swim lazily on the calm waters. Against the back drop of the Sandia Mountains and a cloudless blue sky. A pair of Mallards fly in, skimming across the suface of the pond, landing gracefully. Onc Goose sits staring at me, watcing my every movement. Saying it's time to move on...
