Soft

Soft

A Poem by Leon Agnew
"

Anger, fury, transformation, yada yada

"
When I was little
They called me
Soft
Soft like little downy birds
Floating on the sea
As they broke my back
On toilet seats
On backdoor fences
They cried in my ear
Soft
They screamed my name
They broke my flesh
Branding me
Forever HARD
STEEL GUNS AMMO
KILL RAPE BLEED
BLOOD SWEAT TEARS
And I was drowned in vats
Full of their world
Red and steamy and senseless
The bottle was my god
The woman my bed
The drug my friend
Holy w****s
So sanctified
Met me at communion and begged
Begged my name
Begged my street
And I answered
"I am forever HARD
STEEL GUNS AMMO
GOD KILL WAR
FURY HATE SHOOT"
And forever I was loved
They taught me
Soft was worthless
Soft was ugly
And so I believed
Their words married to blows
Soft
I am never again
Forever HARD
Maybe I am stupid
But at least they love me
The wonderful w****s
At least they love me.
