Restless, EvermoreA Poem by Latonya HughesThis is a piece I wrote about insomnia, inspired by and written in the style of Edgar Allan Poe's, "The Raven", which is one of my favorite literary works. On a night when sleep evades me, As I lay where darkness shades me, And my scattered mind betrays me Of the rest that I am due… Wide awake, my mind betrays me Of the rest that I am due… This I need, to feel anew. Turning to the clock, past yonder, As I start to drift and wander, Travelling in circles, pondering The musings of the day… Now I curiously ponder on The musings of the day… As the night erodes away. In my head there comes a creeping, And the words begin to peeping, While a yearning started steeping, Steeping deep within my soul… Trying to resist the yearning Steeping deep within my soul, But it slowly takes control. In my heart I feel an aching, And my body starts to quaking, With my hands, nervously shaking Shaking to express my pain… Nervously, my cursed hands are Shaking to express my pain… Midnight’s captive, once again. Held at ransom by emotion, Hypnotized by writer's notion, Like a witches wicked potion, That will, through the night, endure. Hypnotized by writer's notion That will, through the night, endure… I am restless, evermore. -spokenhues.
