Love and the Mad Hatter

Love and the Mad Hatter

A Poem by SpokenWord
"

Being envious and living in the past is no way to love

"

She starred into the mirror trying to remember
her more youthful days as a radiant beauty
with her eyes opened as wide as possible
the Mad Hatter counted all her new wrinkles

1,2 No 4! there's more!
she cried in disbelief at the power
that time has over all living beings
except the Queen of Hearts
she is always beautiful, the Hatter thought

"More green!, more green!, quickly!"
her voice screamed into the mirror
her servant protested, claiming that she had
enough green on to cover the entire planet

Hatter grabbed the green makeup
and slashed it all over her eye lids
she blinked fast and hard at her own reflection
there! there! the wrinkles have vanished!

"Excuse me Ma'am but your company is watching"
her servant said pointing to the prince on the sofa

Hatter tilted her hat to the side then
marched over to the prince and growled
"You pervert! You was watching my a*s!
Your just like my last boyfriend.. first a finger
then your candle stick... sick sick sick!

The prince raised his hand to cover his face
just as hatter tried to hit him on the lips

"D****t Johnny, why did you leave me for the Queen?"
her finger pointed directly at his nose
she sat down beside him and started to cry
"You think she's more beautiful than me!
Don't you? Don't you!
Hatter screamed

The prince leaned back away from her
"Hatter have you gone totally insane?
My name is Greg not Johnny and I
wasn't watching your a*s at all.  I think
your beautiful without all that green make up on!

The Hatter's mouth opened and her eyes squinted
with teeth clinched as tight as possible she hissed
"You like her a*s better!  I saw you watching it
the other day over tea while she was on TV!"
Hatter stood up and kicked him in the chest
"D****t Johnny you love her a*s more than me!"
Hatter cried streaming green makeup into her hands

The prince called for his things before standing up
Hatter asked him where he was going
the prince didn't say anything until he reached the door

"For the last time my name is Greg and not Johnny
I think your a*s is just divine as golden wine
but Johnny and I have something in common
I too will take my chances with the Queen of Hearts
she may castrate me but at least she isn't crazy"

The prince stormed out the door and never returned
Hatter sat on the sofa and shock her head
"What the Frack!  did he just leave me for the queen too?
I knew he liked her red a*s more!"

Men are all the same
Hatter thought to herself before returning to the mirror
to count all her new wrinkles on her face

1,2 No 4! there's more!

I love this upside down crazy poem. Unfortunately many times women are like that and it is because society say being your and thin is what is acceptable for women. This was creatively done and I love how you made the hatter counter her wrinkles and call him Johnny when his name was Greg.

What a wild ride! I love it! It's sad and topsy turvey all at the same time. Respect, self assurance, and self-esteem, all come from within. And neither Tom, Dick or Harry can give you the kind of power over your own life, that comes from inside. Well done! Unique:) Creative!

the sadness shines through the humorous and insanity of the poem. The Hatter can't see how beautiful she is. If she only listened and believed Prince Greg.
By the way, it's a wonderful poem.

the sad truth is I actually know several women who behave this way, and they wonder why they can't find a mate! they are left wondering why the new men in their lives are so quickly running for the hills!

Thought provoking and a maze of emotions that lead the reader to reflect on the pattern of behavior in comparing, competing and attempting to defeat only thru selective perception - the thought 'hating beauty' comes to mind...
