I'll Captivate You

I'll Captivate You

A Poem by Spoken
"

this is not meant to be self indulgent

"

Careful
I’ll captivate you
I’ll make you hunger a different view
you’ll want to swim in me
black velvet
silkened sea
a stroke
from my spoken caress
breathless
like the beauty of waves
splashing in the shadow of sunset
leaving you wonder
if this was meant for you
it’s my way
like a current of raging rapids
stick your finger in
get wet
drench your mind in sleekened droplets
moisten your palate
let it palpate
a distant drum of your hearts escape
into the dreamscape I undress within you
lay naked and willing to
receive
what I want to give
open and endless
I can take you there
but be careful what you coax
a potent sea tempers within me

interesting..and i like that it's about people getting obsessed with public personalities...probably cos I have a tendency to do so in a rather harmless let's-watch-interview-clips-of-said-actor-til-i-get-sick-of-him kinda way...

But it's especially hard not to be drawn in by actors or musicians or another kind of celebrity, in the way you described it, because of the easy access we have to their lives - there's television, internet, radio, all those websites, blogs and entertainment magazines..and it makes for a nice escapism from the dour realities of our lives...but i guess the problem starts when one's life becomes defined by these celebrities..

aniway, good work, thought provoking...

HMMMM!!!! this is making me think, I will have to read this a few more times, I'm thinking this may be interpreted in several ways, to me it is like someone pulling us in until we are in complete captivity, so sure of their power over us, promising all kinds of good things to tantalize with.

Perhaps it is from spending too much time out in left field chasing butterflies or staring at tangerine clouds, but I see this piece as neither self-indulgent nor about idolization. It speaks to me of a particular form of seduction, often referred to as coy and those that practice it as coquettes. It is about setting that minor amount of bait, knowing that somebody will bite, that they will take a look, and they will get lost in that sea. There may or may not have been a subtext of sexual innuendo here, but certain lines lead to certain thoughts. No, I see neither self-indulgence nor idolization here from my vantage; I see control - I see power - the invitation of a temptress ready to share only that which she wishes to share, leaving whichever man falls to her lure - her possession. Still, as mentioned elsewhere - it could really just be about some random celebrity that makes fanbois or fangrrls go oooooh... maybe....
