World Above the Rush

World Above the Rush

A Poem by Spoken

I’m walking so fast I’m gliding
toes gently scrapping
I sprout wings and lift from the ground
The floor reaches up to me calling me back
but I defy gravity in my desire to live above the rush
A quickened flash of blurred people
I find it hard to keep up to the demand of the world
I’m slow and steady at heart
One foot in front of the other… easy now, easy.
Arms bouncing to the side to hold a balance
legs kick and flutter
Nobody looks. Nobody cares.
They’re stuck in their mechanical gears
puppets to industrial suburbs living closely like neighbors
Shouting their “how do you do’s” then walking stiffly into their homes
like little toy soldiers
mumbling obscenities towards one another
I’m peter pan-esk in my quest to tare down the pirates of our lives
I’ll never grow up, I’m too busy playing with the plump clouds
bouncing along fairy dust skies
Radiant colors of red and orange sprinkling in my eyes
Replenishing a new meaning in me
As the sun gives a smile, I know he approves of my presents
and who could ask for anything more?
The wind in my face, weaving it’s fingers in my hair like a gentle lover
I’ll sleep in my dreamscapes
painted a scene in the moonlight with blankets of stars and darkness that never felt so bright.
In the daylight I’ll share my old stories of meaningless escapades to satisfy others with the clouds
and we’ll laugh whole heartedly out loud
at misguided innocent ideas of ‘importance’
floating like a bubble, so clear and pure
taking whatever form I choose
because I’m free to  be all I’ve ever wanting
in   the   world  above   the   rush.
