Past Chapters II

Past Chapters II

A Poem by Ryan

I'm looking in my rearview

so I can get a closer look at you.

I see you in a past left behind

I swore to myself I would never go back to those dark times.

I told myself i'd never go back

When I felt the lead connect to my knee, and then it napped.

When crimson was the only color seen,

and my screams were the only sounds on the street.

When I awoke my pain flowed deep,

Dried blood was stained from my knee to my feet.

I'm cold now, my heart is black

I'm blaming the heavens for this murderous attack.

I don't have dreams

Only nightmares consume me.

I question, wondering why my mind wont let me forget.

Is it becasue I am full with regret?

There was a lot of pain in my eyes

and the only person i could blame lived in the skies.

People look through my blue eyes

because deep in my soul is where my pain hides.

See me for who I am.

Someone who enjoys every breath in him.

Because I was able to stare death in the face

and with my life i escaped.

I stopped looking in my rearview

So I could let my past finally fade out of view.

Beautiful!! I loved how you kept my interest through the whole poem. I am pleased that you haven't lost that ability. I loved the ending! Keep up the great work!! I'm looking forward to reading more writing like this in the future.
