Into The Unknown

This is a poem for a writing club called The Phoenix. I need critics so I can make it as good as possible before we publish it in the spring.

Every time I close my eyes

I feel like I'm falling

Drowning in a grey sea of the unknown

Up and down swirl around me

Pointing any way but what's right

I can always see a small white light

Calling me closer

But the black and grey can pull me back

For once can I reach the light?

 

Every time I close my eyes

I feel like I'm surrounded

Becoming consumed by a smoke

Squeezing my lungs dry

Finally helping me become one with the light

So it loosens its grip

Never to let me reach far enough to touch

To feel its warmth

 

When I open my eyes

I finally begin to feel alive
