Just a Dog?A Poem by SpitzyThe loss of a pet and how it affects us.
People say you are just a dog,
But to me you are family. People say you are just a dog, But like a baby, I cuddled you that first night that we brought you home, all gangly legs and a big head. Tan and black soft fur slides through my fingers as I rub your head to assuage your sadness at the parting from your pack. People say you are just a dog, But I watched you grow, my only friend in dark and miserable lonely days, We walked together, I told you my fears and you hugged away my tears, People say you are just a dog, We grew together you and I, your big button nose, teddy bear face, cheeky little smile, People say you are just a dog Part of our family you did so many funny things, kept us company and amused always loving a belly rub People say you are just a dog, You became ill, and fought and fought I didn't want to let you go. But in the end we had only one choice to let you slip away People say you are just a dog, You were so sad and thin, My once boisterous friend, my buddy, my pal And now you went as you came into my life my hands running through your soft fur Soothing your pain and mine People say you are just a dog, But I still miss you. You were and alway will be part of my pack © 2017 SpitzyAuthor's Note
