This Is A Sign

Justin’s POV

I lost my chance to tell her how I feel. Why did Kelsey have to barge in like that? I was so close, but I failed. Maybe it’s a sign that I shouldn’t tell her. She might ignore me until this huge crush of mine disintegrates into the abyss. It shouldn’t be this hard to just come out and say “Lacie, I have a huge crush on you. Will you go out with me.” Why is that so hard?

I hate sitting in hospital waiting rooms because it get so quiet. Kelsey is here with me though. I’ll try and make some conversation so that it isn’t so quiet. “So Kelsey, its been a rough day. How are you holding up?” “I’m ok, just really worried about Lacie. I can’t believe you saved her life. You’re a hero Justin” she said and then smiled at me. “Thanks, I had to save her. I cant lose one of my best friends.” I replied, “Yeah same here.”

She sat forward on the seat and put her hands together to rest her head on them. Then the room was quiet for a long while. Then I saw Lacie’s mom about to go into Lacie’s room and I got up to stop her before she woke Lacie up. She looks too peaceful to wake up when she’s dreaming.

“Hey Miss Barron, Lacie is sleeping right now. She was really wiped out from today.” “Thank you Justin. I’m glad that Lacie has a friend like you to look after her like you do. I know that she is grateful to have you.” She then handed me a Hershey’s chocolate bar. “Here, you look hungry. If you want more to eat I can give you money for the café.” she offered kindly. “Thanks for the candy bar, but I’m fine.” I replied. “Ok, do your parents know where you are?” she asked.

“Um, yeah I called them on the way to the hospital.” I answered quickly trying not to remember the horrible ride here and having to see the open gash in Lacie’s head. “Ok.” she replied and then thanked me again for saving her daughter.

I felt like I was getting too much attention. I then started to think about how I would tell Lacie about my feelings for her. I need to tell her soon or else I’m going to explode. I walked over to her room and looked at her through the window on her door. She looks like a perfect angel. I could stare at her all day if I could. “RAWR!” Kelsey yelled scaring me half to death.

“Oh my God Kelsey! Don’t do that!” I told her. She was laughing and said, “I’m sorry I had to. It was the perfect time. Why are you staring at Lacie?” she asked curiously. “Um, no reason. I’m still shocked at what happened today. We almost lost her.” I replied trying to make my actions seem less suspicious. “I know I would be lost with out her. She is like my sister.” she replied.

I didn’t respond back and went to take a walk through the hospital. I decided to head down to the café and it smelled of pizza and chicken and many other amazing scents. I grabbed my wallet out of my pocket and got in line. I got two slices of pepperoni pizza and a Sprite with Frito’s, which are my favorite snack. I then sat down at an open table and began to eat. I haven’t eaten anything since the Lacie catastrophe except for the Hershey bar from Lacie’s mom.

I scarfed my food down and slowly made my way back to Lacie’s room. When walking I saw this old lady on a hospital bed being rushed somewhere by a swarm of doctors. She didn’t look to good and I bowed my head in respect and said a prayer for her. I got to Lacie’s room and she is still sleeping. UGH! I really need to tell her. You want to know what? I’m not going to tell her yet. This is a sign so I’m just going to leave it alone. I then decided to go home and I’ll see her when I came back tomorrow.
