The HospitalA Chapter by KeirstenLacie’s POV I lay still where ever I am and my head hurts so much that I don’t even want to try and open my eyes. I can hear my mom and Keith and they sound really worried. “She should be awake by now, shouldn’t she?” I heard my mother ask. “She is resting now. She should be up really soon.” I heard a mans voice that isn’t familiar to me respond. Where am I? I then tried to open my eyes to ease my mothers worry. Ouch! Oh my goodness that light is really bright. Then I put my arm over my eyes. “She’s awake Miss Barron! Lacie’s awake!” I heard a familiar voice say excitedly. I processed the voice and decided that it was Justin‘s! Why is he here? I’m pretty sure I’m in the hospital, but why? I then coughed and started to sit up while opening my eyes slowly. The light is very bright, but I dealt with it. My mom stood next to me and took my hand. “How did you manage to do this to yourself?” she asked being concerned. I was confused because I don’t even know the answer to the question. I don’t even know why I’m in the hospital. “Manage to do what?” I asked. My mom looked at Justin and he looked at me questionably. “Well Lace, you almost drowned in the ocean and you have a humongous gash in your forehead which required twelve stitches. You got a concussion too.” Justin explain. “And Justin saved your life.” my mom added. Wow, when did this happen? I lifted my hand to my head and felt the gauze. I accidentally pressed too hard and flinched back because of the pain. How did I do this? I don’t even remember going to the ocean. The last thing I remember is me and Justin where in the car on our way to the ocean to meet Kelsey but, now I’m here. “What happened?” I said. “You were surfing and you fell. We’re guessing that you hit your head off of a rock and it knocked you out. You would’ve died if it weren’t for Justin giving you CPR.” My mom explained. Justin gave me CPR? That means that his lips touched mine. I really shouldn’t be thinking of this but wow. Justin saved my life. “Thank you so much, Justin!” I said then motioned for him to come over to me and give me a hug. “You’re the best friend anyone could ask for.” I whispered in his ear during our embrace. “Anytime Lace. I’ll always be there for you and that’s a promise.” he said back. “So doctor, how long until she can surf again?” Justin asked. “Not for a long time. She needs to let her head heal first and she doesn’t remember what happened to her which isn’t very good.” he explained. I then bowed my head in disappointment. “And you cannot get your head wet at all. You will also stay here for a day or two.” he said. “Alright, will this leave really big scar?” I asked. “It may disappear… eventually. Or you can try different scar creams.” he answered. This sucks. Why don’t I remember what happened? “I’m going to the café to get something to drink. Do you two want anything?” my mom asked. We both shook our heads no and she left. We were alone and this would be the perfect time to tell him that I like him. “So, um how are you feeling Lace?” he asked being very concerned. “I’m ok, but my head hurts a lot.” I replied. “I’m sorry this happened to you. You practically gave me a heart attack when I saw you in the water.” he said. “ Well then why aren’t you the one in the hospital bed?” I asked sarcastically. My head started to throb when I laughed, but I ignored it. He walked over to my bed and sat on the chair next to me. “Don’t ever scare me like that again ok?” he said seriously. “ Ok, I’ll try not to. So um, so much for Justin and Lacie day huh?” I asked. “Once you get out of here we will have Justin and Lacie day.” he promised. “That sounds amazing.” I replied. “Lacie, I really need to tell you something important.” he said. “What is it?” I responded. “I…” he started and then Kelsey ran into the room. “Oh my God Lacie are you ok? I was so worried!” she said and then came over to me and gave me a hug. “It is nothing but a scratch.” I quoted from one of our favorite movies and she laughed. “I’m glad that your ok.” she said. It seemed like she didn’t even notice that Justin was in the room. “When do you get out of the hospital?” she asked. “Not for one or two days.” I said with very little enthusiasm. “Well I really want to get some sleep, sorry. I’m just really tired. Oh, what time is it?” I asked. “It’s seven” Justin replied. © 2008 Keirsten |
