So Much For Impressing Him

So Much For Impressing Him

A Chapter by Keirsten

I paddled into the ocean slowly because, the water was not very calm, but usually that means great surfing waves, which is good for me. I stole a glance at Justin who was on my left and Kelsey who was on my right. A really amazing wave was coming so I started to paddle faster and faster until I was on the wave and then thought to myself, I am going to impress Justin so much that he wont even think I need lessons anymore. I’m riding this wave into shore.

I got my balance and started to stand up. Perfectly done. I started to look over at Justin to see his reaction when I started to feel wobbly. I completely lost my balance and fell into the crashing wave. My surf board, which was attached to my ankle hit me hard a few times. I was stuck under the water and attempted to take the ankle strap off of me as fast as I could. Success. I went above water for air and once I finally got to the top another strong wave pushed me right back down. I got whipped around like crazy and suddenly felt a sharp pain on my head.
I then looked at my surfing suit and my pant leg was stuck on a sharp rock and I was stuck under the water. I started to feel light headed and I couldn’t hold my breath anymore. My vision started so blacken and I went unconscious.

Justin’s POV

I know I saw her fall, but where is she? I’m panicking and I‘m worried. She is nowhere in sight, I thought. I sat higher up on my surfboard trying to look for Lacie. I was looking frantically across the large ocean water and the violent waves when I saw a stream of red blood glide across my board. She’s still out there! She must be close. I have to find her. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw her surf board.
I swam as fast I could to it, leaving my surfboard behind me. As I was swimming my foot went across something solid that I know for a fact wasn’t a natural part of the ocean. I reaches my hand under the water and felt an object that felt like an arm. Once I realized that, I pulled it out of the water and there she was. I put her in my arms and swam to the shore. I then yelled to Kelsey to get an ambulance.

Then I laid Lacie in the sand and started to give her CPR. It didn’t work the first three times but the fourth time she started to breath. I kept thinking to myself that I can’t loose her. No way in heck will I loose her and I’ll do everything in my power to save her. I rested her head on my leg and analyzed her wound on her forehead. I ripped off part of the towel next to me and held it on her head. I stroked her wet hair gently and held her hand. Finally, the ambulance arrived. They put her on a stretcher and wheeled her to the ambulance truck.

I stayed by her side the whole time because there was no way that I was leaving her now. Kelsey wanted to go into the ambulance truck, but there was no room. I was aloud in there because I saved her life. The huge gash on her forehead was still bleeding. She probably collided with a sharp rock or something. I cant believe that this happened to her, but she will get through this. She is a strong person.
We arrived at Mercy Hospital and the doctors wheeled her out carefully through the large automatic white doors. The lights where very bright when we walked in. Lacie wasn’t awake when they wheeled her into her own private room. They made me sit in the chair outside of the door so they could work on her. Lacie’s mom and Keith soon arrived and I told them everything that happened. They hugged me and kept thanking me millions of times for saving Lacie’s life.

It was a few hours until the doctor came out of Lacie’s room to talk to us. “How is my baby girl?” Miss Barron asked in a very concerned voice. “Well, she has suffered from a serious laceration on her forehead which required twelve stitches from the left side of her forehead to the tip of the right eye brow” he explained as he pointed to the place where the large cut was. Miss Barron gasped and asked, “ Well can I see her?” “Yes, but she is asleep right now. She also has a concussion so she may be disoriented when she wakes up.” he said and then turned to me.

“It was a great thing that you did by pulling her out of the ocean. If it weren’t for you she could be dead right now.” he said being very serious. “ Thank you, but she is my best friend and I don’t know what I would do if I lost her.” I explained trying to hold back my tears. The doctor patted my shoulder, gave me a smile, and walked away. I was about to cry because I almost lost my best friend. But she is not only my best friend, she Is also the girl that I have had a crush on since seventh grade.
