A Plea to Papa Legba

A Plea to Papa Legba

A Poem by SpitfireGrrrl

it's sweltering
we're hot, the air is humid
leaves heavy with moisture
lips heavy with promise, yeah
hips swaying, seductively
to the primal beat inside
(ba-dom ba-dom)
side to side and back again, me
chest heaving, shoulders shaking
rum on the tongue, cleansing-
fire burning high and bright
tobacco scent, smoke filled offering
(ay-ay ay-ay)
as we beg, plead, surrender
hope.. Ecoute - nous!
intercede for us,
Skip through Papa!
break the barrier Papa!
take my smoke
take my tears
take my sweat
and deliver me a Loa.

this took me to a place . . . one that smells of strong cigars . . . one filled with foreign words . . . a seductive dance
