Ishtar

Ishtar

A Poem by SpitfireGrrrl

On the backs of lions
a delicately arched foot
bracing the smooth hide
on either side
Standing proud with a face
born of madness, faith
and Desire
Open mouth, painted
red as the petals of that
Living Rose
trumpeting the sound
of Lust, swathed in the
fragrance of fear.

Yeah, I think you might love Ishtar as much as I love Medusa. The passion is clear in this one. You've used what seem to me to be a couple of well-worn terms: "delicately arched foot" and "Standing proud." I think there may be something stronger out there, because you've found terms like "Living Rose" and "fragrance of fear." I like the images throughout, but I think those two could be stronger.

. ah, beautiful ... it's quite an ode to passion, will et al ... "fragrance of fear" is an absolutely bewitching expression in terms of meaning ... superb alliteration too ...
