Lay Me Down

Lay Me Down

A Poem by SpitfireGrrrl

when I die, lay me down
blanket me in the earth
shroud me in memories
and please, keep the
softest blooms above

when I die, lay me down
beneath a weeping angel
wings out-stretched
to encompass the world
and please, keep the
softest blooms above

when I die, lay me down
no brass kettle full of ash
no tear-filled memorial,
where you make me more
and less than what I was
and please, keep the
softest blooms above

when I die, lay me down
let me rest in peace
dozing in blank darkness
and please, keep the
softest blooms above

when I die, lay me down
think of me often, I promise
each one will reach me
and please, keep the
softest blooms above.

. exquisite poetry, my friend ... incredibly moving too ... at the heart of it (for me at least) is not being made "more" or "less" ... i have been resisting being defined thus ... it's taken me a long time to tell the people around me to just let me be ... as i am ... we're just girls, you know ... we want to just be free to blossom ... i never knew how much i loved the "softest blooms" until very recently ... i am a complete flower and flutterby girl ... seems to me like you are too ... thank you, once again, for sharing these infinitely moving and poetic words ...

Thank you!
Beautifully done poem. This should be on the popular writing page for sure. Great work. The song of the same title can be fond on my page.
