Red

Red

A Poem by spirit23
"

I was asked to write about a color in first person present tense - i chose to make it a poem and i chose to make it a story

"

Red

I am dangerous as a perilous warning

Screaming sirens ‘long the highway

Jeering tutelage! Halt! Stop! No!

Obey my rules, I keep you safe

Don’t confuse with pink rose blush

Who pussyfoot and whisper gently

Unless you want to feel my anger

Revere fire engine bright rufescent

I burn as fires scorching embers

My lovers passion knows no bounds

In rapture doing my sacred service

I’m red just red, uncompromising.

No apology for pure raw redness

Surest way mandate respect

An SUV with 4 young kids

Stops before the truck goes by.

My STOP don’t go don’t move an inch

Protects the mountains reputation

Until today, I quake feel queasy

Gawking as the blizzard takes hold

The bluish greenish silver truck

Moves too fast through blinding sleet

I thrust my red stop don’t go halt in front

He hits me square a brunt blast force

I never felt a pain like this

Twisted tangled mangled red

I watch hands tied cant change a thing

Human metal fireball

Slides off the mountain bounce below

Death decides to take its turn

I hang my head in shame and sadness

Can’t save them all, although I try.
