CHAPTER FOUR

I awoke with a start. I sensed something, something wasn’t right. I got up and saw Craig was lying beside me dead with blood oozing out. The bear stepped out of the shadows and swung at me. “AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!” “Wake up Spirit, wake up.” Craig was shaking me awake. “GRRRRRRRRR!!!” I swung at him as a reaction. I instantly apologized and licked his muzzle. He returned my gesture with a lick to my muzzle. I blushed the only way a wolf could. I got up, shook the morning dew from my fur and stretched. I yawned a wolfish yawn and told Craig to wait in the cave while I went to go get breakfast. He started to object but I stopped him. I ran out and started my hunt.
Within half an hour I had three rabbits, two sparrows, and nine little mice. I turned into my Anubis form and carried back my spoils. When I walked in Craig greeted me with a lick to the muzzle and horseplay. I was happy to see him to. I handed him most of the food keeping only a rabbit, and two sparrows for myself. I wasn’t as hungry as I thought he would be. He gulped down all nine mice within a minute. The rabbits he took his time with. But when he got to the sparrows he gulped those down too. I looked at him and scowled. “Show off.” I growled. He smirked. I laughed and stretched again. I nipped at him, wanting to play a little bit. He nipped back, I turned to wolf form and we ran in circles nipping and cackling with laughter the only way wolves could. I turned on him and leaped I landed on him pinning him down. Craig looked at me a little scared but I licked his muzzle and leaped off. I ran outside and waited for him on a log.
When he came outside I leaped at a bush and snapped at two birds as the rest flew away. I gulped them down easily. I looked back up at Craig and grinned. Craig looked at me with wide eyes and his mouth was hanging open. I formed my mouth and asked, “Would you like to catch prey like me?” He answered back, “Yes I would please. I wish to hunt like you.” I pointed towards a bush, “There are about five birds in there go ahead and show me what you got.” “How do you know there are birds in that bush?” He asked. “Because,” I replied, “I can hear them, I have lived in this forest as long as you have. I hear probably more than you can, I have learned to use my senses well and can hear anything over a mile away.” “Oh. I see. You will have to teach me that someday.” “Yes I will won’t I, but now is not the time you go and show me what you can do.”
Craig sneaks up to the bush while snapping many twigs, he leaps in the bush and tries to catch a bird but fails as they all fly away. “You must learn to avoid all objects and be quiet, try again.” I say. I point to another bush and tell him, “There are eight birds in that one go and catch some. If you can.” He sneaked up to the bush avoiding all of the things on the ground that would give him away. He was extremely quiet, when Craig was about 3 inches from the bush he leaped and slammed down on the bush he crushed two birds but that was it. I shook my head in disapproval. Craig looked at me and said. “Well then why don’t you do it and show me how it’s done.” “Ok.” I reply. “I will.” I point to a bush, “there are around twenty birds in there.” I creep up to the bush and I keep going until my head is inside the bush I lower myself until I am just on my haunches in front and leap I grab two birds in my mouth and snap their necks with my teeth and tongue I drop them and grab two more in my mouth and one in my paws. I snap all three quickly and drop them. The rest of the birds start flying off, I leap in the air and law at a few of them bringing them back down. I grab two more in the air one in my mouth and the other with my paws and bring them down. I snap the neck of both and carry nine birds total out of the bushes. I throw them all at Craig and grin. His eyes are wide and his jaw dropped. “Stunned I see. What did you expect me to do? Be like you?” I say with a grin. “N-n-n-no I expected you to just jump on them all not do what you did. Amazing.” “Thank you. Now I expect we should get back before the day fully starts because we need our rest. I plan to take you to one of my favorite spots. I wish to show you it tonight, its very beautiful at night. “Ok. Does it bring us closer to the pack?” He asks. “I don’t remember, it’s been awhile since I have been there. I will answer your question when we head there. I don’t think it does. Now that I think about it, it doesn’t because the pack is in the east and we are going west. So no it isn’t but its not as far, maybe a days journey at the least from the pack to the place we are going.” I say. “Oh, ok.” “Now lets get some rest.” We head back to the cave and we sleep. I want him to see what I see there. I just hope he does.
I find myself drawing closer to him but I don’t know why. I am not easily attracted in a male this way. It must be because of all the trouble we’ve been in. The moon goddess was right, I did face danger and I did get new surprises. But our journey isn’t over yet, we still have tonight and tomorrow I just hope and I pray to the goddess that the pack is ok and not tearing each other apart. I have never been away from the pack this long. Please my goddess let my pack be ok. For now I need not to worry, for now I need to sleep.

I curl up next to him and bury my head into his and we sleep as wolves again, together, facing whatever danger is thrown at us.

Non-stop adventure and a cute love story. I like the way that the boy and girl wolves act half human and half animal. Interesting...
