Here And Now (There And Then)

To most, it's all the here and now, 

a need to be addressed,

a problem to be solved, 

the situation best. 

It's time to be saving

  to help me on my way,

my routine and agenda, 

many things to face the day. 

 

To me, it's the there and then, 

the need to do myself,

looking toward a future time

  that I to know my wealth.

To me, it's distance, resilience,

strengths for me to see, 

time doesn't mean much 

  to things that I achieve.

 

I don't always need 'the' help, for

  help comes of many kinds, 

I need people to realise,

a path I need to find.

Inside is a restlessness, 

independence screaming loud,

inside there is a spirit,

growing strong, growing proud. 

 

Help isn't always hands on, but 

  to stand back and respect, 

know that I can do it, for a

  path ahead be tougher yet.

I know all help is done with love, 

I know the benefits many, but 

  I need to run this race for me

  with regrets not any.

 

As long as they do

  means that I don't, 

to give up on me, 

to compromise I won't.

My independence 

  screams loud and strong, 

days, months, years 

  I need to carry on.
