Little CornersA Poem by Richard MThe journey of Stroke recovery.A wheelchair for so long, tottering steps, a tottering balance, months, a year .... a strength, a balance. Little steps, little steps lap after lap, counting, good days and bad. The marathon of Stroke, a journey long, but a life slowly returning, little corners gaining .... Transfer by transfer by the day, with, without 'legs' Frustration, a restlessness, a wanting to go, but corners, CORNERS. Transfers, transfers, core, core, lock it in. Walking, walking, walking more laps, laps, laps, jigsaw pieces falling, little corners turning, good days, good days. 'I walked before I'll do it again. ' Everyday, my job to get me going. Everyday, my memory coming back, coming back, my words, handwriting. Achievements rushing, little by little, slow by slow little corners closer together. Positive self talk, new strengths realised, a walk not as I wished, but still an endurance gained. The journey to, so many people, deeper understandings, reflections within; understanding need and dependency. © 2022 Richard M |
