Our Little Ray of Sun

Our Little Ray of Sun

A Poem by Richard M
"

In memory of my beautiful little girl 'Lotte.'

"

I remember the day I first saw your eyes,

peering out in wondered surprise,

you a mere six weeks of age

looked so tiny in that cage.

A plane flight to life anew,

our lives weaving around

  the beautiful you.

Only weeks old you caught on,

my little companion you'd become

draped over a wheelchair wheel

as if your duty to me you knew,

your eyes saying,

   "I'm minding my daddy's car",

the most endearing photo by far.

You very soon made your mark

as you won so many hearts,

you our little ray of sun,

showering love on everyone.

You were the sparkle to everyday,

always bringing a smile our way.

You never liked baths,

running to me for protection,

for solace, pleading

  for some intervention.

how you really quite

  liked being immersed,

many things could be far worse.

Remembering how you loved

  your walks.

hovering at her bedroom door,

What shoes today would hit the floor?

So excited to see a green lead,

'Do you want to go?', you'd happily agree.

The gate bell attached to you,

someone visiting and everyone knew, but

when they entered you were sweet,

dropping 'Rabbo' at our feet.

just wanting to be recognised,

loved more, never chastised.

On my knee you could

  see over the wall,

people, dogs you saw it all,

I remember your skiddly boots

  around the house,

no such thing as 'quiet as a mouse.'

or you'd come running when we'd sneeze,

staring as if it hurt your ears?

Very attentive to your job,

barking at the passing mob,

people with dogs on leads

would get you into a frenzy.

Always 'talking' at the gate,

neighbours, I'm sure, were irate.

Will never forget my

  hospital stay and

times beside me you happily lay,

a hospital bed a crocheted rug,

your one position warm and snug.

The time I had to spend away,

our hearts to see each other again,

you so excited to see my face,

on my lap in the sun you

  took your place.

When I came home and

  people appeared,

you had to check them out, agree.

you just wanted to be a part,

so uplifting to my heart,

you to see what's going on,

hoping you didn't get trod on,

always getting in the way, but

  so beautiful that you'd stay.

Months went by you

  couldn't stay

it broke our hearts when

  you went away, but

  beautiful memories

  surround us by the day.

This is really sad. The number of pets we've lost has stopped us from having any, it's just too painful. We pet sit instead. Thanks for sharing.

The death of a family pet is as bad if not worse than that of a loved one.
This is a piece that tugs at the heartstrings with a lovely pic to accompany.
Hope Sunday finds you well Richard

This was heartbreaking but also so uplifting. It reminded me of Shakespeare's words, It's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved...." Our furry friends can be just like family. I know I've had and lost a few that felt just that way to me. Your tribute was precious and touching. I enjoyed your write. Bless. F.

My pleasure.
A dog is the most cherished companion a person can have. When they die, the loss is no different then any other family member. I've felt this loss in the past. It's not easy to get over. I feel your loss in this poem. May you be well, Richard.

Beautiful tribute to a beloved companion. I know I will feel just as devastated when our two aging cats pass on.

Very touching poem 💙 pets are truly a part of the family and when we lose them ( or they us) the loss is deeply felt.
