![]() Rear Mirror ReflectionsA Poem by Richard M![]() After illness, I had to sell my car and hand in my licence. A sad time by necessary.![]()
I remember the day the car driven away, a lump in the throat what could I say, so many memories, times I'd had, no regrets, but feeling sad. A piece of me tore away as the car disappeared that day. My heart plunged the day I heard, mixed emotions in me stirred; driving, something I loved to do, thirty seven years just flew, but so grateful to those who gave me start for driving proved just my spark. I needed to climb needed to grow remembering the ones who'd made it so, with their help, encouragement they bid me, Go!
Years move on things decline, now a blurring of the lines, but I was one of the crowd, yes I may have been a little loud, but I had to live had to run, didn't want to be outdone. So grateful I had that chance, me and driving, a kind of romance. Feelings lay bitter-sweet, How now to feel complete? 'Find something new' she'd said to me, new horizons for me to see. Gone are those days, fading to a distant haze, but cherished memories do I have, just happy no longer sad. Opportunities lost, best not to dwell, but sight not right, I had to sell. I'm okay if I don't think too much, but the trick now to stay in touch, remember and love the journeys I've been, remember fondly things I've seen. I saw my car the other day on it 'L' Plates were displayed. To see it again made my heart to jump, and yes, in my throat was a lump, the joy of a time I knew is a younger driver's view. But gee to think I got that chance, to rise above circumstance, so grateful for those years, how it'd opened new frontiers. Seeing things I couldn't see, a progression of who I could be. © 2022 Richard MReviews
