My hometown,
the place I love,
two months away,
now a first floor window,
a convalescence.
Rooftops, treetops,
an horizon skyline,
a landscape yellowing
under a late spring sun,
rolling hills familiar;
landforms, colours.
A street familiar,
cars parked in
a kaleidoscope
of colour,
the back of a motel,
the physiotherapist's
on the corner.
Somewhere an
Aussie flag flies,
traffic lights shine
amongst trees.
a busy car park.
People out walking,
some trailing dogs,
the Exchange, a steeple,
the school, Post Office,
an horizon skyline
stretching ..........
Trees lining the river,
silos of outlying properties,
burn under a spring sun,
railway bridge crossings
seen for years.
I see the Brisbane Street
tree line heading south,
to the west the industrial area.
Night time
lights shining breaking darkness,
individually, to who do they belong?
traffic lights the only constant.
Getting better now,
can almost see my
home from here, to
within a few rooftops,
days long, but
thoughts of home.
Another window,
another steeple
a take away outlet,
familiar hills lost
to a spring haze,
fields and crops defined
like a woven blanket.
My town,
where I’ve grown up,
people, places known,
a thousand stories
my spirits up,
wanting so to be home.
Hello dear Richard. There is a real longing for the familiarity of home in this write. For things missed. I am wondering whether you are writing from hospital? I do hope that you are OK and on the mend, if you have had a stay there. It's been a while since I saw you on the forum, so it is good to see you. Sending you all best wishes.

I'm well thank you and getting back to pre-stroke fitness bit by bit. Thank you for your concern. I'm a little naughty lol, as I wrote this last year, when I was on the verge of going home, 3 months in total and I was more than ready.
I hope you and yours are well?
Stay well my friend.

I feared your health may have worsened. I am pleased that you are progressing just fine. Yes, we are all well. All fully jabbed and being careful. Trying to get back to normal living. Learning to live with covid amongst all the other irritants :) Lookbafterbyiyrsekf dear poet. All good wishes from across the pond.
