Stronger

(sequel to Confusion)

 

It’s happened again,

another fall, suddenly,

the time, appointments

  my mind racing ……

haste, frustration, irritation,

sadness, despair,

no time for this ……

getting up, the effort

  ... haste ... haste … haste

the time ticking,

anxiety, tension, spasms,

legs rigid, expletives,

suppressing emotion.

Don’t have time for this ……

still to get up, to break spasm,

the place …. the haste,

feet dragging on kitchen floor,

black shoe marks.

 

What the future, the past?

Emotions welling, suppressed,

reality gripping, heavy in thoughts

  today, tomorrow, the next, the next …...

A distance gone, a distance to go!

Only I truly know this battle;

the struggle physical, emotional,

days, years, trials endless.

 

But the past, remember the past;

how far I’ve come, things achieved,

to remember self, times past,

remember love, strength of family

the strength in me, a distance traveled,

remember what’s inside, things faced before

…… it’s there, dig deep!

Focus on who I am, I pray to

  remember my strengths, to see

  through today, tomorrow, future.

The distance traveled does not always reflect the mode and process of the travel. And if achievement were to be measured alone by how far someone has gone, then we are shortsighted about the challenges and sacrifices, the strength and perseverance that were required to cover those distances. There is a feeling perhaps of frustration here, although healing takes time, moving forward takes time, I myself am recovering from illness yet I’m also extremely impatient, so thank you for bringing this to my mind, reminding me, just give it time.

Thank you Lathen for reading. These times can be quite frustrating and sad. 9 times out of 10 I'm fine, pick myself up, dust myself off and carry on. It's that 1 in 10 that gets me; nothing breaks audibly, but inside I'm broken and then, the fall out.

Reminds me of my last years at work. Past pains are mentioned, but nothing specifically. The impression, though, is that the speaker has endured some rough stretches, but the memory of overcoming them brings strength for the future. There is a time to look back, and this appears to be one of them.
