Blank Pages

Blank Pages

A Poem by Richard M
"

Writers blank and when ideas finally come, writing poetry

"

Here I lie empty waiting fill,

a pencil and rubber,

a Parker, a Quill,

for just a stroke or

  one little mark,

but night is falling and

  not even a spark.

There he lies waiting

  for inspiration to come,

but at the moment

there is not one.

Still I dream for words

  to cover me,

a line, a verse,

a poem my plea.

I lay open on bedside

  in the cold of night

  still dreaming of

  the words he'll write.

I've heard him read

  from writings fine and

  wish he'd write the

  same on mine,

for a word, a stanza

or just a phrase,

something to hide the

  blankness of my page.

Oh how I long for that stage!

In morning hours early

  he's found that spark,

my blankness smiles,

a jump to my heart.

Words to flow and

  verses to write,

poems formed under

  bedside light.

Dawn has come and

  disappearing white,

papers covered

  greeting daylight,

on my page

  this poem forming,

but he's back in bed now

  sleepy and yawning.

As he lies sleeping

  it occurs to me,

that I the blank page,

have written in thought

  my own poetry.

Later in morning and

  on his desk placed

  I long for thoughts and

  the path they'll trace,

for new adventures

  to be taken today and

  words with which

  he'll choose to play,

for the ideas his

  pen will express,

for with letters and words

  he's happily obsessed.

So he sits down and with

  a new page clean,

rendering there things unseen,

words begin to fall

  from pen to page.

Oh I so love this stage!

Poems come and ideas flow,

playing on paper like

  an evening concerto.

Here at day's end and

  the pen lies at rest,

poems aplenty

  my daily quest.

He closes my cover and

I close my eyes and dream again

  to another sunrise.

Richard M,
I get what your saying. The thing is at least for me a word or phrase, an idea will come to mind in day to day life but it has to written down to give it a place to grow. Needless to say I don't do that quickly all the time and then I may forget. So yea there is that empty page which would rather be filled. Good one Richard!
Bless you,
kathy

Think we've all been here more than once. Got so many unfinished pieces in different books due to not having a clue where to go next with it. But I do have a little pad handy in my bedroom just in case something come to mind while I sleep. Really liked this poem. Reminds me that no matter what level we are at with our writing it can hit any of us.

Nice expressed poem about our muse. Only he or she can decide when they will come and help us. Regards to poetry and stories abound. Beautiful done Richard. Lovely read.

Thank you Dawn for reading and reviewing. I had fun writing this one.
Definitely the most imaginative & unique poem about writer’s block I’ve ever read. As a lover of rhyme & rhythm, I enjoy the way your poetic structure beckons a little dance inside one’s head while reading. You have told an epic short story here, with regards to writer’s block & being inspired by one’s muse. I love the way your storytelling is a blend of fantasy & real life. You have a great writing style! (((HUGS))) fondly, Margie
