Sleep Paralysis

Sleep Paralysis

A Poem by Specialspaceboy
"

Sleep paralysis is described as being between REM and consciousness. You can move your eyes but nothing else and people report horrific sounds and visions. Science explains REM but not the demons.

"

The room is dark although its morning

My curtains are closed and my eyes are opening

I try bring my hand to my head but it won’t move

My body is rushing and somethings in the room

I say something because I know it’s across the room

But I feel it as though it were breathing on my throat

I look up and can see a swirling shadow growing larger

I hear a woman screaming to turn over

I can’t move I know that it wants to hurt me

She starts laughing as my eyes dart feebly

I can hear the laughter echoing in my hell

I want to see my attacker and protect myself

At the same time I love that I can’t move

I know turning to see the creature is worse

Because the white wall in front of me

Is far less terrifying than the cackle behind me

No I need to look I need to move I need to be brave

She’s mocking me now jesting at my flaws

Nobody likes you your just the best option right now

As soon as someone better comes along you’re done

You try to be funny but you’re just annoying

You try to look smart but you’re so stupid

Her words bounce off the walls getting deeper and more demonic

I need to look I need to look I can’t look why can’t I move

The pitch black room is slowly getting darker

I see that my eyes are closing and that terrifies me

I’d rather not be able to move

Than have something else work my body

Something presses on my chest

I feel my lungs get weaker

My body is covered in darkness

My body spasms and it turns me around

Nothing is there

A ray of light pokes in through the curtain

The darkness leaves my body

I regain control and can breathe
