Vanity

Vanity

A Poem by Jenny
"

Again another poem from school, we were given one of the seven deadly sins as a theme and mines was Vanity.

"
Vanity

Lipstick lies,
Compact reflexions,
Eyes encased in dust,
Powder, perfection, paper thin skin.
Falling face first,
Into a world of personal perfection,
Materialistic. Exterior obsessive,
Living a lie of a life behind transparent glass.
The clip of removal of diamond earrings,
Hair, tousled, loose, tumbling around heavy shoulders,
A burden to carry that they never seem to notice,
A cut above the rest, looking down your pointed bridge at 'trailer trash glamour'.
Egyptian silk dresses, clinging to barely there curves,
A body of sheer flawlessness, 'gentleman' eyes locked on every movement,
Dogs. Hungry for the removal of expensive couture,
You dangle the bone then strip it away.
Limelight, Harsh lights,
Blinding sharpened eyes,
Mirror, mirror on the wall,
I am not the fairest at all.
Aluminium can, choking on clouds,
Of sweet then sour and bitter gas,
On your taste buds, in the back of your throat,
Taking residence in tired, poisoned lungs.
Pores crying for oxygen,
Suffocating under masculine influence,
The darkened skin that no one ever sees,
Layered, in thick, crocodile liquid make up.
Even the stage lights,
Couldn't detect the evergreen stains,
Toning between,
Grass green, violet and midnight blue.
But in this confined space,
There's no denying the marks that he left her,
There's no escaping the insecurities they gifted her with,
Two pristine fingers down a damaged oesophagus.
Stomach acid contributing to a further broken body and mind,
Fragile like shattered glass, bent over a porcelain circle,
If only your skin was this perfect,
But this is a different world altogether.
Life something we should of which we should have control,
What we don't all realise is,
Committing a sin isn't always something,
That we have a choice over.
