An Imperfect Poem for a Perfect Friend

An Imperfect Poem for a Perfect Friend

A Poem by Sel Whiteley

Five weeks devoid of words for recalls.
Why are our poetic phrases scarcest
on black coffee mornings daydreaming
of our best friends? In cider-filled nights,
we talked of religion and a liturgy
of folk songs but many facts,
were inferred only in the crevices
of our conversation, your words

comforting as our favourite lyrics.

the impact is profound in this great usage of brevity.. theres a tenderness that is not weak, and a resolute feeling that is strong..

I always 'feel you' when reading your poetry Sel. This very good poem says so much with so few words. It evokes a scene I have lived in a time or two. Thank you for posting this.

I really enjoyed your style of writing, and enjoyed this piece very much.

Looking forward to reading more.

You do get to the nitty gritty of living Sel I love the crevices of conversational inference. and the use of familiar folk songs to fill them. like flame lured moths flirting with the light of truth in the familiar riffs of three picked strings.

I wonder sometimes about a perfect friend. The one who knows me inside and out without the words. So good to see your words this morning.
