The Bridge

The Bridge

A Poem by NovaeSpes

I sat there calm as the sky,
My feet gently swinging off the edge.
I watched as the water rushed below me,
Only three things on my mind.
Would I sink?
Would I panic and swim?
Would I just float away?
I was going to end it that day.
I thought about them and I froze.
Their smiling faces,
Their warm loving hugs,
Their faces filled with absolute joy when I see them,
I thought about my siblings and I froze.
I thought about my once lover and I froze.
The promise we made and I froze.
I sat there calm as the grey sky above me.
My feet gently hanging from the edge,
I watched the water rush beneath me,
Only three things on my mind.
How could I do this to them?
How can they be strong if i'm not?
What would happen to them?
I was going to end it that day...

Lots of pain and sorrow yet well expressed and nicely written.

I knew someone who committed suicide. His mind didn't have the ability to think things through as so many haven't. Your poem demonstrates the strength of reasoning and thinking of others without being tied to the shackles of tunnel vision.

Self-reflection and considering others is the first step to turning your life around. Many are so consumed with themselves they never take this step. Our demise would affect others in ways we would never know.

You put together your thoughts very well. I've read a couple of other poems of yours. Keep writing.

Beautiful - painfully beautiful poem! I loved it. I was left wanting even more visuals.
