Is it true?

Is it true?

A Chapter by Elizabeth Gross

All Bella could feel was the knowing, She just knew nothing was ever going to be the same for her again. How could she be so stupid?
Tears started to spill down her face as she thought about what had happened a few days ago. That was the last day she left her house. She vowed it would be, the last time she ever went back into that school, filled with those people.
Rats were all they were to her, nasty, ugly, and annoying. They were her tormentors, the people who have made her life a living hell since before she could remember.  Why were they so cruel to her? She never did anything to them. Was the fact that her heart was beating so offensive to them?
Bella laid down on her bed and looked at her ceiling as the tears began to soak her pillow. Laying on her back she found it hard to breath through the sobbing.
She closed her eyes and what had happened on that Monday, just three days ago, replayed in her mind like a movie.
She had just walked into school with Danny smiling and laughing at what he was saying, when she met a wall. Anthony stood in front of her holding a bunch of printed out papers. Unable to make out what they said at first, Bella laughed a light hearted laugh and looked at his face that showed no joking whatsoever.
He looked mad and mean and hateful towards her and she had no clue as to why. "What's wrong?" She asked him as he handed Danny one of the many printed out papers he had in his hand silently.
She furrowed her brows and looked at the paper Danny had in his hand and her stomach dropped.
In a school of 1500 kids the noise level is usually unbearable and its typically a chore to attempt and drowned it out, but not today. The hallways were quiet and lacking in people not that Bella could notice anyways.
Her heart was in her chest as she held in her hand a piece of a file she thought had been erased from the depths of her computer. A fraction of her journal was in front of her face and all she could do was stare.
She knew this entry like the back of her hand, so well she could verse it without looking at the paper. She couldn't move, she couldn't cry, couldn't say a word.
Danny finished reading the paper and crumpled it up and threw it to the floor. Tears filled his eyes as he looked at her disbelieving and hoping what he read was not true. He swallowed hard and starred her directly in her eyes," Is this..." words failed him as his voice cracked. He cleared his throat and tried again," Is this true?" He asked shakily.
Bella couldn't find her voice, or the courage to admit that unfortunately, this was true. And she never expected in a million years anyone to ever hear her deepest darkest secret.
Danny blinked and the tears that were threatening to fall, fell and he shook his head as his bottom lip jutted out. "No." He said trying to make sense of it all in his head.
Bella couldn't look at him and averted her eyes to the other students watching her with hate in their eyes, papers being held in their hands. She swallowed and hard as she turned to look Danny in his red eyes.
She felt so much guilt for making this beautiful man cry, but none for the act in which she performed.
"I did do it." Bella whispered as she watched the color drain from Danny's face. She almost wish she had lied to him, told him that this wasn't her actual journal that someone had just made it up, but that wasn't Bella.
Danny's eyes turned from sad to cold within seconds and he took a few steps back from her. Anthony shook his head and walked away, a hard expression on his face.
" How could you?" Danny said, his face red with rage. His hands balled into fists and he gritted his teeth. "Well?!" He yelled at her, rage filled.
Bella jumped at his sudden outburst and backed away from him. He looked scary to her and she knew she should have been afraid but instead she marveled at him. Oh how stupid of her.
Danny began to get closer to her and closer to her," You are the lowest piece of filth i have ever laid eyes on. You will pay for what you did." Danny took his phone out of his pocket and began to dial 911.
Bella's eyes widened as she watched in horror. If he called the police, she would go to jail. For how long? She wondered. Maybe life! No, he couldn't do this to her. She smacked the phone out of his hand before he could press the send button.
Danny looked surprised at her sudden action and his mouth opened to say something but before he could she hit him on the top of his head as hard as she could with her heavy backpack.
Danny fell to the ground with a loud thump and Bella watched in horror as he laid limp. She looked around the hallways for anyone and saw no one. She felt his neck for a pulse and thankfully there was one. She put both straps of her backpack on her shoulders and picked up Danny with much effort and walked him out towards his car.
She grabbed the keys from his pocket and pressed the button to unlock the car and put him in the passenger seat. She threw her backpack into the back seat and got into the drivers side and closed the door.
She started the car and drove off without a second look at the school.
Now, Bella laid in her bed with Dannys car parked in her garage and the keys in her dresser drawer. Danny was  unconscious, tied to a chair in her room with duct tape around his mouth. She had given him a sleeping pill to make him pass out so she could buy some time to set things up for him in her basement.
She had that to worry about, drawing plans and buying materials. And she also had the police to worry about.
She was surprised the police had not come to her door yet, she was sure they would have after the whole school found out what she did two years ago.
The night Ashley Grant, Dannys older sister, went missing.
