![]() The CityA Poem by Doug
Proud walled city, rich and strong beside the sea What silent promise did humanity foresee? Storm approaching, near at hand Lightning crash, wind blown sand- Should evil wield the greater power? Should nature’s ferocity devour? Strong waves smash the weak Mighty men dash the meek- Should city rest on sand? Should weak values stand? Many stalwart men will flee Their unstable city by the sea- Should the mighty city fall? Should mortal strength forestall? Unstoppable force will run its course Marching onward without remorse- Should nature yield to folly? Should death yield to melancholy? Approaching storm, near at hand Waves summon the silent land- Should the sweet breath leave? Should the bitter death weave? Foundations built on shore of death Waves steal the unsteady breath- Should mortal flesh continue so? Should unwise hands reap and sow? Proud walled city, once golden by the sea Desolate now, no promise be- © 2008 DougReviews
